Before talking a bit about NO SLEEP, NO SURRENDER, I should probably give you a little rundown about the film it’s about, FATHER’S DAY.

The urban legend known as ‘The Father’s Day Killer’ began some years after the demise of serial rapist/murderer Chris Fuchman. Since the 1970’s, the use of contraceptives has tripled in North America alone and a generation of fathers fell asleep with the covers pulled tight, buttocks clenched. The story has become a fire-side cautionary tale on camping trips, often used by fathers to warn their sons of the dangers of unplanned pregnancy. That deep fear of penetration, violation, and eventual death waned as the murder and rape of fathers continued to decline all over the world. Unfortunately, those numbers didn’t remain low, and it would seem that the legend is not yet complete…

Ahab, a man obsessed with exacting a brutal, violent revenge on the man who murdered his dad joins John, an eager priest, and Twink, a hot-headed street hustler on an epic quest to find and defeat the mythical monster known as Chris Fuchman, aka THE FATHER’S DAY KILLER!

Now, it turns out that the production of FATHER’S DAY was a troubled one, and post-production was plagued with even more difficulties.

From Fangoria:

The title of Astron-6’s making-of FATHER’S DAY doc is inspired by a death-march like motto, NO SLEEP, NO SURRENDER, and the teaser shows us some of the hilarious and insane conditions the cast and crew had to endure while making a $10, 000 feature look like a million dollars. This will prove to be something to watch for all indie filmmakers out there. You can expect to see the blood, sweat and tears that were poured into the movie, but perhaps the most interesting aspect of this documentary is that it is being released by the film collective independently, and will not be appearing on the FATHER’S DAY set from Troma.

As of this writing the Blu-ray/DVD release has been pushed back to July/August. This alone reveals that there is a fracture in the relationship with Astron-6 and producer/distributor Troma Entertainment, but in the teaser we’re given a slice of some of the experiences that soured the relationship that the full doc will likely expand on. Accusations of broken promises and bad faith contracts are at the heart of it, but the trailer shows us other pitfalls like the charge that Troma was selling bootlegs of the movie at screenings that ended up on The Pirate Bay within a day.

Sounds like a wild ride. I can’t wait to check out the doc NO SLEEP, NO SURRENDER, and keep your eyes peeled here, boils and ghouls, for an upcoming review of the film FATHER’S DAY.

Variety reports that the Kaare Andrews directed sequel CABIN FEVER: PATIENT ZERO, has begun casting with the news that Sean Astin (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, GOONIES), Brando Eaton (DEXTER, AMERICAN HORROR STORY), and Ben Hollingsworth have signed on to the film.

Shooting will start August 13 in the Dominican Republic, where the production company behind the film, Indomina, has part of its operations. It also plans to shoot CABIN FEVER: OUTBREAK in the Dominican Republic (more on that in a minute).

Original CABIN FEVER producer Evan Astrowsky and his Hypotenuse Pictures is also producing. Jake Wade Wall (THE HITCHER, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS) wrote the screenplay that:

Centers on a bachelor party cruise in the Caribbean unexpectedly running ashore on a medical research island, a deadly virus is unleashed.

The plan is to segue this film into a fourth sequel, CABIN FEVER: OUTBREAK to be penned by Adam and Deborah Marcus.

Personal note: this sounds like it’s going to be absolutely dreadful. I actually enjoyed the first CABIN FEVER, and liked the second as well, even if it was taken out of Ti West’s hands and mucked with, it was a funny flick. But this…this sounds like it’s going to sway a bit too much into SyFy territory. But I’ll wait to pass complete judgement on it until I actually see it. I may be surprised.

Arriving October 5th in 3D in theaters everywhere, the full trailer for Tim Burton’s FRANKENWEENIE (based on a short film Burton created back in 1984 starring Shelley Duvall and Daniel Stern) has hit the web. The voice cast will feature Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, and Atticus Shaffer.

A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, ‘Frankenweenie’ will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.

Without further ado, the full trailer:

Just weeks after the federal government and CDC safely assured us all that there was no such thing as zombies, emergency officials in Maine are taking part in a training exercise to prepare for the, you’re reading this correctly, ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!

From RT:

Around 100 emergency responders from eight different counties participated in the event in the quiet city of Bangor.

The premise: an unknown virus originating from Jamaica has reached Maine, turning the infected into zombies. Once infected, the virus quickly spreads to the brain, and turns the host into a full-fledged zombie, who has only one thing on its mind: biting other people.

The officials were armed with two would-be vaccines – one to prevent the infection from reaching the brain, and one to bring the zombies back to life.

We have identified in several states, particularly Texas, New York, Illinois outbreaks of these civil disturbances and biting,” one official said. “And in conjunction with that there are also widespread power outages.

The event may have been a staged act, with locals playing zombies, but it gave emergency responders an opportunity to prepare for a real life epidemic.

This gives us the opportunity to do something a little bit different, but it still has the same principles that would apply in a real situation,” Kathy Knight, director of the Northeastern Maine Regional Resource Center told the Bangor Daily News. Emergency workers “need to figure out what they need, how they’re going to respond and how they are going to share their resources to respond to the disaster. They need to know who to go to outside their community to find the resources they don’t have, so it’s a different twist.

Be Prepared, that’s what they always taught me in scouts, and Maine is preparing for an all out zombie holocaust. Bitchin’!

Interesting news has hit the web concerning THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER, a film that’s been stuck in development hell since it was first announced way back in 2004. Currently, it is property of Millenium Films with Neil Marshall (DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT) attached back in May to direct.

From Bloody Disgusting:

Although yet to be confirmed, we’re told Ben Kingsley is still attached to play the film’s Captain. In addition, Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence, The Road, The Lord of the Rings) has been offered the lead role of “Henry Clemens,” a source exclusively reveals to Bloody. There’s no real word on Noomi Rapace, coming off Prometheus, other than she “may” still be starring as “Anna Billington.” I can only guess it comes down to scheduling, especially with a movie that’s been stuck ashore for nearly a decade.

Demeter” is the name of the ship that carried Dracula’s coffin from Transylvania to England in Bram Stoker’s classic tale.

The story, penned by Bragi Schut Jr., is based on a chapter in Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” describing the arrival of the vampire count in England on a cargo ship that has crashed into the rocks at Whitby with no crew and the dead captain lashed to the steering wheel. Stoker tells the story via the captain’s log of the voyage, which begins in Bulgaria and becomes increasingly disjointed as members of the crew disappear.

Written by Bragi Schut (The latest draft was written by Lowell Cauffiel), it’s said to place the voyage center stage in a tale that is reminiscent of the first movie in the ALIEN franchise, in which a crew is slaughtered one-by-one by a mysterious passenger.

The Last Voyage Of The Demeter

This Saturday, June 30th, SyFy will be premiering it’s latest creature feature (the last in a month of Saturday creature features) titled BIGFOOT. Obviously, it’s going to be another schlock fest with bad CGI, bad writing, and bad actors, so why are we here at Backwoods Horror so interested? Because we’re marks for squatchsploitation flicks…big marks. I, personally, am a huge fan of films like LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK, CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE, LEGEND OF SASQUATCH and the countless other newer sasquatch/bigfoot movies that have come out straight to DVD over the past decade. I know they’re bad, but I can’t help myself. If it has anything to do with that big ‘ol hairy beast, I’m watching it, no matter how terrifyingly awful it is.

From Dread Central:

Danny Bonaduce (AKA “Danny Partridge” of “The Partridge Family”), Barry Williams (AKA “Greg Brady” of “The Brady Bunch”), Howard Hesseman (AKA “Dr. Johnny Fever” of “WKRP in Cincinnati”), Sherilyn Fenn (of “Twin Peaks”), Andre Royo (of “Fringe” and “The Wire”), 80’s rocker Billy Idol, and horror rocker Alice Cooper star in this newest slice of Sasquatchploitation produced by The Asylum for Syfy. Actor Bruce Davison of X-Men and a long list of movies steps behind the camera to direct.

Now behold, the trailer…
