"Yep, gonna get me them warwulfs!"

"Yep, gonna get me them warwulfs!"

Thomas Jane was recently quoted in an interview with Collider.com that he was returning to horror with an upcoming werewolf film entitled THE LYCAN. Here’s what he had to say:

“I’m doing a werewolf movie called, The Lycan, which is a gothic werewolf romance set in the late 1700s. it’s fuckin’ cool. It’s basically Alien, set in a castle, with werewolves.”

Jesus on a bike, this sounds awful. Don’t get me wrong, werewolves are my favorite, FAVORITE monster (though, if you ask me, there has yet to be the ultimate werewolf movie…I’m working on that…just werewolf movies with a few good parts), but even the title here is awful. Ever since those Underwear, er, Underworld movies, werewolves seem to be called “lycans” which is bullshit. It’s also a period piece, and those are always tricky. I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot of CG bullshit where the werewolf is concerned… No, this movie sounds like utter shit. I’ll probably see it at some point, but it’s going to get it’s due here in the shack, lemme tell ya.

HALLOWEEN – THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!

Posted on 11th October 2010 by aaron in Personal - Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

It’s that time of year again boils ‘n ghouls.  That time of year when the air becomes cool and crisp.  When dusk brings a brilliant orange hue and long, mysterious shadows.  That time of year when the smell of woodsmoke drifts upon the brisk night wind.  When the leaves carpet the ground with brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, and brown.  It is that time of year when a Jack ‘o Lantern, so carefully carved, sits glowing upon the steps of homes everywhere.  When children stalk the night to trick or treat.  It is a time of monsters, of werewolves, vampires, witches and ghosts.  It is time…for Halloween!

If you’re reading this, then there’s a good chance that, like me, you’ve waited all year for this.  In celebration, not only have I decided to resurrect Backwoods Horror from the dead, but the entire month of October is Halloween for me.  And the day itself?  I’m not yet certain what I’ll be doing, but I’m for DAMN sure it’s going to be memorable (IF I can remember it…heh…).  So dust off your costumes, or make or buy new ones, because it’s time to get out there and celebrate the time of year when Horror in every form imaginable is brought to the forefront of every heart and mind.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

‘HIGH MOON’ RISING

Posted on 23rd March 2009 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , , , ,

Came across this story over at the Creepy Cool guys ‘n gals over at SHOCK TILL YOU DROP:

Production Weekly’s back with another quick, random update on a script currently garnering some form of attention in Hollywood (similar to their update on War – a script we’ve received since this report).

This time it’s High Moon. PW writes, “In Eddie Nickerson’s horror Western ‘High Moon’ a reckless outlaw is a small town’s only hope for survival from a vicious band of werewolves.” Those are the only details they’ve provided.

Our question: Is this an adaptation of Zuda Comics’ similarly-titled web series? (Zuda’s an imprint of DC Comics.) Created by David Gallaher and Steve Ellis, the story follows a bounty hunter who strolls into the town of Blest and finds himself neck-deep in lycanthropy and witchcraft.

We’ll do a bit of digging to find out more…

Bitchin’! I’ll watch that.  There seems to be a lot of potential for suckitude, but there also seems like a lot of potential for ass kicking.

WEREWOLVES IN THE LOONY BIN IN TEMPLESMITH’S ‘HOXFORD’

Posted on 8th March 2009 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , , ,

Ben Templesmith, the artist on 30 Days Of Night, is having his comic WELCOME TO HOXFORD brought to the big screen by Chris Columbus’ 1492 production house.  Very little word so far, but the basic synopsis involves a psychiatrist who must team with a deeply disturbed patient in order to escape werewolves who run an institution for the criminally insane.  Uh…oooookay?  I love werewolves, but I have a feeling this one’s gonna suck.  Scan your peepers over some cool cover art below:

Found this over at SHOCK TILL YOU DROP.  Some potential conceptual artwork for the WOLFMAN transformation.  This is one of my more anticipated flicks of 2009.  Check out the art below.

DOUGHERTY LOVES THE “BITCHES”

Posted on 7th October 2008 by aaron in News - Tags: , , ,

Just came across this bit ‘o news over at the good folks at Dread Central:

It’s about goddamn time someone tried to get werewolves back on primetime TV. Sure there have been some shows since “Werewolf: The Series” that have made minimal effort, but it sounds like Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty’s Fox show “Bitches” will be the one we’ve been waiting for.

“It’s about four women living in New York City who are werewolves,” Dougherty told the Fangoria Radio crew the other night, “It’s Sex & The City with werewolves! They seduce people, then they eat them! The series will answer the questions: how do they feed, where do they work… It’s very funny.”

“Bitches” will be kicking into production early next year. Just how much of a mix of humor and horror there will be remains to be seen, but it’s got werewolves so I’m there. Let’s hope it makes it past the pilot, at least!

Man, I’m just going to be straight up with you guys…Trick ‘r Treat looks kickass, but this show is gonna suck donkey dick.  First, we’ve got werewolves in the city…no man, that just doesn’t  work, werewolves are forest monsters.  Second, “Sex And The City meets Werewolves?” Are you shitting me?  No offense Dougherty, but what the fuck are you thinking?  Vampires in the city, yeah, but werewolves?  Nah man, that shit won’t fly.  The chicks may dig it though.  I’ll check it out when it comes out, but I’m tellin’ ya, it’s gonna be a stinking pile of shit.

WILD COUNTRY DVD COVER ART AND SYNOPSIS

Posted on 28th September 2008 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , ,

Just picked up this bit of news from Fangoria’s site:

Lionsgate Home Entertainment announced that the British werewolfilm WILD COUNTRY, lensed back in 2005, will at last see U.S. DVD release December 16, and gave us a first look at the cover art. Written and directed by Craig Strachan with makeup FX designed by HELLRAISER’s Bob Keen, the film is about a church youth group that goes hiking in the Scottish highlands, during which they find an abandoned baby in a crumbling castle. When they decide to take the infant with them back to civilization, they start getting killed off by a murderous lycanthrope. Special features, if any, have yet to be announced; retail price is $19.98. Look for a set-visit article on WILD COUNTRY in Fango #279, on sale in December. -Michael Gingold

Here’s that cover art:

Could be interesting.  I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.  I’m currently working on a story/script that, in my opinion, would be the ULTIMATE werewolf flick.
