NEW OFFICIAL IMAGES FROM V/H/S HIT THE WEB

This past Tuesday, July 31st, I was lucky enough to attend a press screening for the found footage, multi-directed, anthology film V/H/S. No, I’m not going to give away any spoilers other than the last segment of the film, in my opinion, is the best, most frightening part, which is saying something in a film absolutely packed with horror. Directed by David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Radio Silence, Joe Swanberg, Ti West and Adam Wingard and starring Calvin Reeder, Lane Hughes and Adam Wingard V/H/S will be opening from Magnet Releasing on VOD August 31st, and will be hitting theaters October 5th.

Now a few new stills from the film have been released to the web via the official website. Check ’em out after the break below!

SYNOPSIS:

Watching a horror film on VOD is a fine method of viewing a film, it’s like watching a dvd of sorts, but you don’t get that same experience you get when sitting in a theater, the world around you darkened, sounds of terror coming at you from every angle while the unflinching silver screen never wavers from showing you exactly what you came to see the way it was meant to be seen. Now we have a list of the first theatrical dates and locations for V/H/S/! Check ’em out after the synopsis and trailer below.

RED BAND TRAILER FOR V/H/S HITS THE WEB

A few days ago, we posted the official poster for the upcoming found footage anthology film V/H/S. Now the Red Band trailer has hit and I have to admit…I’m intrigued. My interest is piqued. Directed by David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Radio Silence, Joe Swanberg, Ti West and Adam Wingard, V/H/S stars Calvin Reeder, Lane Hughes and Adam Wingard and will be opening on VOD August 31st, and will be hitting theaters October 5th. I’m still not exactly sure why distribution/production companies are putting films out on VOD before theatrical release these days. There must be some method to the madness, but it seems almost like it promotes pirating. That being said, it’s an interesting and successful way of getting independent films out to the masses. With any luck, when it finally gets its home video release, there will be a special big box VHS edition. THAT would be badass!

V/H/S POSTER HITS THE WEB

Magnet Releasing has released a new poster for the upcoming horror film V/H/S directed by David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Radio Silence, Joe Swanberg, Ti West and Adam Wingard. Simple and clever, it reminds me a bit of the poster for the old hospital horror flick VISITING HOURSV/H/S stars Calvin Reeder, Lane Hughes and Adam Wingard and will be opening on VOD August 31st, and will be hitting theaters October 5th. I’m still not exactly sure why distribution/production companies are putting films out on VOD before theatrical release these days. Looks great, buuuuuuut it kind of looks a lot like, which is pretty damn awesome. I’m tired of the tired “floating head” posters for horror films.:

RETRO HORROR: AN OLD 20/20 BROADCAST ON THE DANGERS OF HORROR MOVIES

Posted on 8th June 2012 by aaron in News,Personal - Tags: , , , , , , ,

Check out this old report from the 80’s by the clueless folk over at 20/20 titled VCR HORRORS on the DANGERS of horror flicks on VHS to the youth of America. Some of my fondest memories are of going to the local mom ‘n pop video store with my father every weekend. We’d get to pick out 5 videos to watch. My brother and I would get to choose 1 each and, more often than not, they’d be horror movies we were WAY too young to be watching (according to the MPAA and 20/20). I loved browsing the shelves, looking at the terrifyingly amazing (and, often, misguiding) art on the boxes, sometimes picking out a horror film specifically because of that art, and the outstandingly lascivious copy on the back of the box. This is a real blast from the past and it’s making me wax all nostalgic, putting me in the perfect mood to go see THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE on the big screen at midnight tonight! Hot Damn!

Here’s an example of what I mean when I talk about awesome box art:

EXTENDED CUT FOR CLIVE BARKER’S NIGHTBREED IN THE WORKS

Posted on 21st June 2009 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , ,

Some interesting rumors have been circulating around the internets for some time now about a recntly uncovered VHS (LONG LIVE MAGNETIC MEDIA!) copy of Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED that showcased the film at a much MUCH longer running time.  Here’s the news from FANGORIA:

a VHS copy of the 1990 film (picture left on our late spin-off TOXIC HORROR), containing over 44 minutes of additional footage has been viewed, according to Phil and Sarah over at Clive Barker Revelations.

“We just finished watching a 145 minute version of the film’s mid-1989 workprint! That’s 44 minutes longer than the theatrical release!! And it’s even more significant than that since there are none of the later re-shoots of Decker’s murders, so the actual deleted footage is far more than 44 minutes!

Yes, there’s (lots) more violence as the Sons of the Free invade Midian, yes there’s some deleted stop motion footage, yes, Narcisse gets decapitated, yes Lori stabs herself on a hilltop and Boone bites her… Yes, yes, yes!

Now, this is just a VHS copy so it’s not of releasable quality, so… thank you for your continuing messages of support – let’s keep working to get a proper DVD release for an extended Nightbreed…
