NEW TRAILER AND FULL SPECS FOR RESTORED NOSFERATU: A SYMPHONY OF HORROR.

Nosferatu Banner

Eureka! Entertainment announced the home video release of an eagerly awaited new restoration of F. W. Murnau’s legendary silent cinema horror classic NOSFERATU: A SYMPHONY OF HORROR (1922), expertly restored in Germany by the world-renowned Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung.

From Bloody Disgusting:

The earliest adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” has become one of the most iconic and of all horror films – and silent films – in the history of cinema, ranked #21 in Empire magazine’s 2010 poll of the 100 greatest films in world cinema and included in the recent Critic’s Poll by Sight & Sound magazine as one of the 250 greatest films ever made. With an incomparable lead performance as the vampire by Max Schreck — whom some believe to have been an actual vampire, it is the film behind E. Elias Merhige’s John Malkovich-starring Shadow of the Vampire and the inspiration behind Werner Herzog’s Klaus Kinski-starring 1979 feature adaptation, released theatrically by the BFI in the UK on November 1, 2013.

Nosferatu Still 1

Following a UK & Eire theatrical run where it will open in cinemas nationwide from Friday October 25, 2013, Blu-ray, Dual Format (Blu-ray + DVD) SteelBook and DVD editions featuring a raft of special features to be announced nearer the release date, will be released as part of Eureka! Entertainment’s award-winning The Masters of Cinema Series on November 18, 2013.

OCTOBER HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!

1375038_10151603090661736_44030724_n

It’s that time of year again boils ‘n ghouls.  That time of year when the air becomes cool and crisp.  When dusk brings a brilliant orange hue and long, mysterious shadows.  That time of year when the smell of woodsmoke drifts upon the brisk night wind.  When the leaves carpet the ground with brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, and brown.  It is that time of year when a Jack ‘o Lantern, so carefully carved, sits glowing upon the steps of homes everywhere.  When children stalk the night to trick or treat.  It is a time of monsters, of werewolves, vampires, witches and ghosts.  It is time…for Halloween!

If you’re reading this, then there’s a good chance that, like me, you’ve waited all year for this as the entire month of October is Halloween for me (hell, I could say it’s Halloween all year round here at BackwoodsHorror). And the day itself?  I’m not yet certain what I’ll be doing, but I’m for DAMN sure it’s going to be memorable (IF I can remember it…heh…).  So dust off your costumes, or make or buy new ones, because it’s time to get out there and celebrate the time of year when Horror in every form imaginable is brought to the forefront of every heart and mind.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

NEW INTERNATIONAL TRAILER FOR NEIL JORDAN’S BYZANTIUM

Honestly, though we’re huge fans of Neil Jordan’s screenplay for IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES, he hasn’t really turned his attention to the horror genre overall, which may just turn out well given his ability to bring about realistic characters, stories, and emotions (something severely lacking in the genre these days). That being said, we’re looking forward to his upcoming vampire film BYZANTIUM. Check out the new International Trailer below!

SYNOPSIS:

Eleanor and Clara, two mysterious and penniless young women, flee the scene of a violent crime and arrive in a run-down coastal resort. They try to find money and refuge along the tawdry seafront and in the dilapidated hotels.

Clara, ever-practical, sells her body. She soon meets shy and lonely Noel, who provides a roof over their heads in his seedy guesthouse, Byzantium. Clara, always looking towards the future, turns it into a ‘pop-up’ brothel.

Meanwhile Eleanor, the eternal schoolgirl, meets Frank, a kindred spirit who unwittingly prompts her to tell the truth about her life. She tells him that Clara is her mother; yet Clara is only a few years older. She says that she was born in 1804; yet she is just sixteen. She confesses that she must drink human blood to stay alive – and so must her mother. In the small, quiet town, people start to die.

And the past that the girls have been running from for so long, finally catches up with them – with astonishing consequences.

VIDEO: TWO CLIPS FROM TRUE BLOOD EPISODE 5.11 – SUNSET

Only 2 episodes left of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD. In the meantime, check out a two clips for the upcoming episode, SUNSET, below.

VIDEO: TWO CLIPS FROM TRUE BLOOD EPISODE 5.10 – GONE, GONE, GONE

As we near the end of season 5 of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD, things are starting to heat up, literally, as True Blood factories all over the world are being blown up by the Authority who are now a cultist religious organization that believes vampires should rule over human like cattle…and they’re forcing “mainstreamers” to feed on humans as the world’s supply of True Blood begins to run out. It’s turning into an all out Vampire vs. Human war and I’m diggin’ it, which is surprising given I haven’t been very impressed with most of the season. Check out three clips below for the next episode: GONE, GONE, GONE.

Episode #58 (5.10): Gone, Gone, Gone”:
Airdate: Sunday August 12th, 2012

With vampire-on-human attacks increasing, the Authority attempts to woo public favor. Meanwhile Nora (Lucy Griffiths) tries to convert Eric to Lilith’s gospel. Jason finds a mysterious scroll; Elijah (Keram Malicki-Sanchez), the new vampire sheriff of Area 5, pushes Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Tara (Rutina Wesley) to obey a new mandate; Sam (Sam Trammell) and Luna (Janina Gavankar) search for Emma (Chloe Noelle); Russell (Denis O’Hare) seeks a higher calling. Written by Alexander Woo; directed by Scott Winant.
