I didn’t pick up on this story when it first hit the press last year, but it recently came to my attention during a conversation with a friend of mine who, like me, is quite the fan of all things Vincent Price. When I posted the story yesterday of the new Scream Factory Vincent Price Collection, he reminded me that there have been some rumors that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were in talks with Warner Brothers to do a remake of  THE ABOMINABLE DR. FIRST OFFICIAL FRANKENWEENIE CLIP

While perhaps not precisely horror, per se, FRANKENWEENIE is most assuredly genre friendly and perfect for getting the little boils ‘n ghouls into horror. And you can bet your rotting arse I’ll be there to see it as well. It looks like another amazing animated film from Tim Burton that walks that slight line of darkness. FRANKENWEENIE hits theaters October 5th, 2012 and features a voice cast that includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas), Martin Short (Mars Attacks!), and Martin Landau (Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow), along with Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer.

SYNOPSIS:

A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, ‘Frankenweenie’ will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.
