It seems only as though it just began, however the fifth season of TRUE BLOOD had it’s finale this past Sunday. In true TRUE BLOOD fashion, in left us with more questions than answers and a cliffhanger that should have everyone in Louisiana, if not the world, running scared. What wasn’t revealed, however, except to HBO GO only members, was a bonus scene from the finale which we present to you below. Along with that juicy clip is a farewell and thank you from series creator and executive producer for the last five seasons, Alan Ball who is moving on to other projects we assume. So if you’re itchin’ now that TRUE BLOOD is over for the season, here’s a little something to ease the pain…
An extended (one minute, forty eight seconds) clip from the season finalé of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD has hit the web. Just one episode left… Check it out below after the synopsis.
Episode #60 (5.12): “Save Yourself”:
Airdate: Sunday, August 26th, 2012
Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) embarks on a final, desperate mission to overthrow the Authority – and save Bill (Stephen Moyer) from losing his humanity. (Louis Herthum); Sam (Sam Trammell) and Luna (Janina Gavankar) test their limits in trying to escape the Authority. Written by Alan Ball; directed by Michael Lehmann.
Just one more episode left of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD, and the war between vampires and humans and every other non-vampire entity keeps escalating with a season finale that, with a little luck, will be insane…particularly with Russell Edgington and his new…discovery. Sunday, August 26th, the end is nigh…SAVE YOURSELF.

The last time we heard anything about Darren Lynn Bousman’s (SAW franchise, REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA) Jersey Devil feature THE BARRENS was months ago when a sales art poster was released for Cannes. Whether you’ve been a long time Backwoods Horror reader or have just joined the party, you may be aware that we are suckers for the ‘ol monster-in-the-woods horror flicks. While many other monstrous legends have often received the horror film treatment, the Jersey Devil has been woefully underdone, with perhaps the last decent film to broach the subject being Dante Tomaselli’s very creepy SATAN’S PLAYGROUND which came out in 2006 and featured Felissa Rose, Ellen Sandweiss, and Edwin Neal (the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Hitchhiker).
With Bousman at the helm, THE BARRENS, starring Stephen Moyer, Mia Kirshner, Erik Knudsen, J Larose, Allie MacDonald, Max Topplin and Peter DaCunha may give the Jersey Devil the monster film treatment it deserves. Now we have news that Anchor Bay will be releasing THE BARRENS via DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on October 9th. The film will also hit theaters in a limited release and additional big-screen showings based on fan demand via a partnership with Tugg.
SYNOPSIS:
Despite their reluctance, Richard Marlow takes his wife Cynthia, their young son Danny, and his teenage daughter Sadie to the Pine Barrens for a long weekend of camping and family bonding. As they arrive at the Wharton State Forest, a mutilated deer runs out into the road, nearly colliding with the Marlows’ car. Later that evening, another bloodied animal falls from a tree. Bad turns to worse when, in the middle of the night, a college boy camping nearby disappears into the woods. Nevertheless, Richard presses the family to hike further into the forest, to the spot where he used to camp with his father. He is feverish and a past wound on his arm appears badly infected, but when it begins to rain, there is no turning back. Richard’s sickness soon becomes debilitating, his headaches turn to hallucinations. What’s worse, he believes there is something stalking them…something with yellow eyes, pointed horns, and the wings of a bat – THE JERSEY DEVIL. The disfigured bodies of the missing camper and another college boy soon turn up. The Marlows must fight for their lives as the horrifying answer reveals itself in a shocking and tragic conclusion.
The discs will present the movie in 16×9-enhanced 1.78:1 widescreen, with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound on the DVD and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound on the Blu-ray; extra features include commentary by Bousman and cinematographer Joseph White and a deleted scene. Retail prices are $26.98 for the DVD and $29.99 for the combo pack.
Only 2 episodes left of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD. As the war between vampires and humans keeps heating up, and Russell Edgington goes off on his own (as he wants a bloody rampage, vampire religion be damned), I’m interested to find out just how things are going to turn out. In the meantime, check out a two clips for the upcoming episode, SUNSET, below.
Episode #59 (5.11): “Sunset”:
Airdate: Sunday, August 19th, 2012
Slipping further into religious fervor, Bill (Stephen Moyer) gives Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) an order she’s loath to carry out. Armed with a damning video of Russell (Denis O’Hare) and Steve (Michael McMillian), the military delivers an ultimatum to the Authority. Claude (Giles Matthey) and Maurella (Kristina Anapau) take Sookie (Anna Paquin) to meet the faerie elder, who may know something about an ancient family secret. Alcide (Joe Manganiello) reconnects with his father. Written by Angela Robinson; directed by Lesli Linka Glatter.

As we near the end of season 5 of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD, things are starting to heat up, literally, as True Blood factories all over the world are being blown up by the Authority who are now a cultist religious organization that believes vampires should rule over human like cattle…and they’re forcing “mainstreamers” to feed on humans as the world’s supply of True Blood begins to run out. It’s turning into an all out Vampire vs. Human war and I’m diggin’ it, which is surprising given I haven’t been very impressed with most of the season. Check out three clips below for the next episode: GONE, GONE, GONE.
With vampire-on-human attacks increasing, the Authority attempts to woo public favor. Meanwhile Nora (Lucy Griffiths) tries to convert Eric to Lilith’s gospel. Jason finds a mysterious scroll; Elijah (Keram Malicki-Sanchez), the new vampire sheriff of Area 5, pushes Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Tara (Rutina Wesley) to obey a new mandate; Sam (Sam Trammell) and Luna (Janina Gavankar) search for Emma (Chloe Noelle); Russell (Denis O’Hare) seeks a higher calling. Written by Alexander Woo; directed by Scott Winant.

The fifth season of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD only has a few episodes left. Below you’ll find two preview clips from this Sunday’s 9th episode: Everybody Wants To Rule The World.
Episode #57 (5.09): “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”:
Airdate: Sunday August 5th, 2012
As the Authority proceeds with Lilith’s plan, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) plots his escape. Gran (Lois Smith) directs Sookie (Anna Paquin) to a clue to her parents’ murderer. Andy (Chris Bauer) and Jason (Ryan Kwanten) search for leads to the identities of the people behind the shifter killings. Alcide (Joe Manganiello) recalls his pack induction; Arlene (Carrie Preston) gets caught in Terry (Todd Lowe) and Patrick’s (Scott Foley) crossfire; Steve (Michael McMillian) gets a new pet.
Unfortunately, I missed last night’s episode of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD as I was out at a screening of Killer Joe (but, thanks to HBO on demand, I’ll be watching it today). It seems that the war between Humans and Vampires is coming to a head and I can’t wait to see what I missed last night. In the meantime, here’s a preview of next Sunday’s episode 5.09 of TRUE BLOOD: EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD.
