Best known as the writer of THE HITCHER and NEAR DARK, or from his directorial work on BODY PARTS, BAD MOON [which has, without a doubt, the BEST werewolf suit of all time] and 100 FEET, the jack-of-all-trades is also an accomplished author whose latest work, “The Guns of Santa Sangre“, will soon be available from Samhain Publishing.

Below you will find a sizzle reel and some early art from Red’s upcoming Bigfoot-themed NO MAN’S RIDGE [And you kow what that means…if it’s Bigfoot, BackwoodsHorror.com is instantly a fan. Plus, given that Eric Red did such a masterful job with the Werewolf genre, I’m guessing he’ll be able to handle another monster in the woods flick with ease!]. The sizzle reel, which was created with already existing footage, is being utilized to shop the project around and gives us a pretty good idea of the tone that Red is going for with this flick. I’m especially digging the art, which features a groovy creature design by John Gallagher. This Bigfoot looks like he means business!

GET READY FOR MORE BIGFOOT HORROR WITH ‘FEED THE GODS’

Feed The Gods Banner

I’ve said it time and time again, if it’s got the big ‘ol hairy guy (bigfoot, sasquatch, swamp ape, wildman, ohio grass man, or whatever you wish to call it), we here at Backwoods Horror are IN LIKE FLYNN (I’m going to have to look up where that saying comes from. I say it all the time and have no clue what it means, but I digress…)! I’m already a bit skeptical about FEED THE GODS, however, as it promises to be a horror-comedy “in the vein of Shaun Of The Dead, An American Werewolf In London, & Cabin In The Woods.” Ok, first, I don’t really consider Cabin In The Woods or An American Werewolf In London comedies, per se, but horror films with comedic elements. Shaun Of The Dead, however, is definitely a comedy with horror elements, so they nailed that one. The problem with horror-comedies, however, is that many try, and most fail when it comes time to properly balance the two genres in one film. Still, it’s friggin’ Bigfoot…you KNOW I’m going to watch it.

Synopsis:

FEED THE GODS is about WILL GUSTAFSON, a determined yet hopelessly inept filmmaker, and his quest to find Bigfoot in a town that’s all too hungry for tourists. Raised in a foster home, Will and his adopted brother, KRIS, inherit a box of videotapes showcasing Kris’ long lost mother and father… as well as a suspicious town fixated on a Bigfoot-like creature. Will agrees to help Kris search for his parents while secretly hunting the elusive beast. Soon the town’s insidious past emerges and the boys find exactly what they’re looking for…

LIONSGATE TO RELEASE ‘PRIMITIVE’ ON DVD & VOD THIS NOVEMBER

primitive banner

Any long time reader of BackwoodsHorror knows that we’re just crazy about squatchsploitation/sasquatch/bigfoot flicks. From seeing 1980?s NIGHT OF THE DEMON, CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE,  and LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK as a child, onto newer fare such as THE LOST COAST TAPES and the much anticipated EXISTS,and Bobcat Goldthwait’s WILLOW CREEK, we just can’t get enough of the big furry guy. Bigfoot, Skunk Ape, or Sasquatch – whatever you want to call the big fella, the creature has made one hell of an impression on us!

And now, Lionsgate Home Entertainment is throwing their (big)foot in the ring with the upcoming November 19th release of the new Sasquatch horror film PRIMITIVE. This time, however, it seems as though they’re taking something of a demonic slant to the creature we all know and love.

THE LOST COAST TAPES NOW BIGFOOT: THE LOST COAST TAPES WITH NEW POSTER

As regular Backwoods Horror readers know, I’m a huge, HUGE fan of bigfoot flicks, or as I call ‘em squatchploitation movies. I’m talking about films such as THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK,CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE, and 1980?s NIGHT OF THE DEMON, and Eduardo Sanchez’s upcoming EXISTS, amongst others. So I was excited to hear that the found footage bigfoot film THE LOST COAST TAPES had found North American rights distribution through XLrator Media with plans for a fall release. Now THE LOST COST TAPES has picked up a title change, now being called BIGFOOT: THE LOST COAST TAPES which makes a bit more sense from a marketing standpoint. As a part of the marketing campaign, the filmmakers have released a new poster (much like the last) with the new title. Check it and the trailer after the break below.

THE LOST COAST TAPES is directed by Corey Grant, and stars Drew Rausch, Rich McDonald, Ashley Wood, Noah Weisberg and Frank Ashmore. It was written by Brian Kelsey and Bryan O’Cain and produced by Corey Grant’s New Breed Entertainment, Chevez Frazier and Chris Beal.

SYNOPSIS:
Sean Reynolds, an eager Television Host, is on a mission to debunk famed Bigfoot hunter Carl Drybeck, who claims to possess the body of a dead Sasquatch. When the team arrives in Northern California they are immediately thrilled — Drybeck’s zealous belief in his hoax is going to make for a wildly entertaining episode of campy-paranormal television. However, when Drybeck’s hunting partner is myste
riously attacked, the team is left alone and reality begins to set in. The evidence is stacking up, Drybeck’s theory may not be a hoax, and the existence of Bigfoot might just be the least of their worries.Shot on location in the region of the world’s largest concentration of Bigfoot sightings and based on the real accounts of locals, BIGFOOT: THE LOST COAST TAPES reveals a new truth about America’s oldest living legend.

ANOTHER FOUND FOOTAGE BIGFOOT MOVIE, BIGFOOT COUNTY, HAS BEEN SPOTTED IN THE WILDERNESS

Lo and behold, another found footage squatchsploitation flick is being produced. It’s a good time to be a sucker for bigfoot movies, and I, my fiends, am a fan of bigfoot flicks. It all started when, as a small child, I sat on the couch, transfixed and, barely past the age of crapping myself acceptably, nearly did so watching 1980’s NIGHT OF THE DEMON. Since then, I’ve been obsessed with bigfoot movies, particularly the 70’s wave of them including THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK, CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE, and SASQUATCH: THE LEGEND OF BIGFOOT amongst others.

After the early 1980’s the genre seemed to dry up, and then the new millenium came and we saw an entire new crop of squatchsploitation flicks pop up, many of them…for whatever reason, starring Lance Henriksen. While I didn’t like them anywhere near as much as the early days of bigfoot flicks, I’ve still seen every last one of them, and this year has seen a bumper crop of bigfoot films with Eduardo Sanchez’s (THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT) EXISTS, and a found footage bigfoot film, Corey Grant’s THE LOST COAST TAPES. Now we have news of another found footage bigfoot flick: BIGFOOT COUNTY.

From the Press Release:

Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired all North American rights for the feature film BIGFOOT COUNTY, a found footage thriller about a group of ?lmmakers who ventured into Siskiyou County in Northern California, an area widely known for its Bigfoot sightings, and disappeared. Their footage was found a year later. Grindstone will release the film this winter through Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

“I went up to shoot a movie on Bigfoot; then a local I met with presented me with evidence that blew my mind,” says BIGFOOT COUNTY director Stephon Stewart. “After seeing this ?lm, you will begin to believe what many have doubted since the 1967 Patterson/Gimlin Bigfoot footage was released.”

Grindstone’s Ryan Black adds, “The film puts a scary twist on a classic legend. Bigfoot enthusiasts and horror fans alike will really enjoy what Stewart has created.”

In addition to his directing duties, Stewart also produced the ?lm with Richard Halpern along with executive producers Johnnie Colter and Joey Napoli. Angelique De Luca is associate producer.

And that’s all I’ve been able to find on the film other than what looks like some viral marketing in this YouTube video:

It looks like it’s going to be an exciting time for fans of the squatchsploitation sub-genre.

A TRAILER HITS THE WEB FOR SYFY CREATURE FEATURE ‘BIGFOOT’ STARRING ALICE COOPER, BARRY WILLIAMS & DANNY BONADUCE

This Saturday, June 30th, SyFy will be premiering it’s latest creature feature (the last in a month of Saturday creature features) titled BIGFOOT. Obviously, it’s going to be another schlock fest with bad CGI, bad writing, and bad actors, so why are we here at Backwoods Horror so interested? Because we’re marks for squatchsploitation flicks…big marks. I, personally, am a huge fan of films like LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK, CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE, LEGEND OF SASQUATCH and the countless other newer sasquatch/bigfoot movies that have come out straight to DVD over the past decade. I know they’re bad, but I can’t help myself. If it has anything to do with that big ‘ol hairy beast, I’m watching it, no matter how terrifyingly awful it is.

From Dread Central:

Danny Bonaduce (AKA “Danny Partridge” of “The Partridge Family”), Barry Williams (AKA “Greg Brady” of “The Brady Bunch”), Howard Hesseman (AKA “Dr. Johnny Fever” of “WKRP in Cincinnati”), Sherilyn Fenn (of “Twin Peaks”), Andre Royo (of “Fringe” and “The Wire”), 80’s rocker Billy Idol, and horror rocker Alice Cooper star in this newest slice of Sasquatchploitation produced by The Asylum for Syfy. Actor Bruce Davison of X-Men and a long list of movies steps behind the camera to direct.

Now behold, the trailer…

A RETURN TO TRUE GRINDHOUSE CINEMA WITH ‘DEAR GOD NO!’

HOW HAVE I MISSED OUT ON THIS?! After viewing the trailer (available on the official site and in a crappy version below), I was blown away by the potential badassery present in DEAR GOD NO!. Here it is, finally, a return to grindhouse form with so many of my favorite elements thrown in.
