I think it’s fairly obvious that we here at BackwoodsHorror are huge SCREAM FACTORY fans. A division of SHOUT! Factory, this company has been putting out some of the finest blu-ray editions of fan favorites for some time, reminding me of the glory days of Anchor Bay…perhaps even better. And now they’re releasing two of my favorite Kevin Tenney films: Witchboard, and perhaps my favorite, Night of the Demons on Blu-ray on February 4th, 2014. Check out the cover art and full specs after the break!

SCREAM FACTORY does it again with two amazing special edition blu-ray releases of THE BEYOND and PHANTASM 2. When it comes to special edition horror releases, the folk over at SCREAM FACTORY just cannot be beat. These discs look fantastic!
It’s no secret that Shout Factory’s special division SCREAM FACTORY is ahead of the game when it comes to releasing amazing special editions of horror and exploitation films we all hold dear to our cold black hearts. They remind me of Anchor Bay during the early days of their awesome DVD releases and are quickly becoming the kings of special edition horror releases. Now, SCREAM FACTORY has stated on their official facebook page a few of the special editions scheduled for release in 2013, and I for one can’t wait to get my blood soaked claws on ’em.
From the release:
The wait is over! We can now officially reveal some really cool and beloved horror classics from the 80s that will be coming from the “Factory” in 2013:
- THE FOG (1980): John Carpenter’s seaside ghostly revenge flick with Adrienne Barbeau and Jamie Lee Curtis. New extras are in the works! First time on Blu-ray.
- THE BURNING (1981): Summer Camp. Garden shears. Tom Savini effects. Need we say more? First time on Blu-ray
- THE HOWLING (1981): Joe Dante’s ultimate werewolf pic with superb Rob Bottin effects. First time on Blu-ray.
- LIFEFORCE (1985): Tobe Hooper’s space vampires and light-show extravaganza finally gets its first ever anamorphic widescreen presentation! First time on Blu-ray.
- NIGHT OF THE COMET (1984): Shopping and zombies highlight this post-Doomsday cult classic. First time on Blu-ray.
- DAY OF THE DEAD (1985): George Romero’s splattery undead classic gets a new collector’s edition with new extras.
A few weeks back, we here at Backwoods Horror reported that the über fantastic horror division of Shout Factory, SCREAM FACTORY, was going to be releasing the camp classic TERROR VISION and THE VIDEO DEAD to DVD. What we did NOT know, however, was that they’d be releasing TERROR VISION and THE VIDEO DEAD (a SUPREME classic in its own right and a thousand times better than TERROR VISION, in our personal opinion) as a double feature Blu-ray/DVD package! Exciting news, and we have the art for you below, check it out!
As with all SCREAM FACTORY releases, I MUST HAVE IT. THE VIDEO DEAD alone hasn’t even seen a DVD release. We know nothing, yet, about special features. There may be none at all, and while that’d be a bummer, we here at Backwoods Horror are excited enough to just finally be getting both of these features on blu-ray (ESPECIALLY THE VIDEO DEAD)!
Once again, SCREAM FACTORY has announced two new classics for blu-ray release next year. This time, Cult classics THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970 – Starring Peter Cushing) and THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN (1977 – with gooey Rick Baker make-up effects) will both be coming to Blu-ray for the first time next year! We haven’t received any further details as of yet, but as soon as we do, you’ll be the first to hear them.
Seriously, SCREAM FACTORY is releasing news of title after awesome title they’ll be releasing on blu-ray every Friday throughout October, and recently they made the announcement that they will be releasing Stuart Gordon’s FROM BEYOND, based loosely upon the H.P. Lovecraft story, as a Collector’s Edition Bluray & DVD combo next year! There will be new extras along with the older ones which were on the prior 2007 DVD release. Bitchin’!
FROM BEYOND centers around a pair of scientists attempting to stimulate the pineal gland with a device called The Resonator. An unforeseen result of their experiments is the ability to perceive creatures from another dimension that proceed to drag the head scientist into their world, returning him as a grotesque shape-changing monster that preys upon the others at the laboratory.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT IN HI-DEF?! I CAN’T WAIT!
Exciting news once again from SCREAM FACTORY, the new horror/exploitation specific division of SHOUT FACTORY! For weeks now, they’ve been announcing one awesome release after another, and now we have news that they’ll be releasing two classic Charles B. Pierce films, THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN, and the lesser known THE EVICTORS. If the name is familiar, Charles B. Pierce is perhaps known most famously for his masterpiece THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK.
The new Shout Factory horror division Scream Factory has announced that it will be releasing John Carpenter’s cult classic THE LIVE to collector’s edition Blu-ray and DVD on November 6, 2012, and now we have the full specs for the release! And for those of you who hate the new art for the release, it has a reversible sleeve with the original THEY LIVE art.
