GROOVY BRUCE CAMPBELL CONFIRMS ARMY OF DARKNESS 2!

Man it is EVIL DEAD CENTRAL over here. A while back, we heard rumblings that Sam Raimi was working on a screenplay for a sequel to ARMY OF DARKNESS, and now we have confirmation from Groovy Bruce Campbell that ARMY OF DARKNESS 2 IS A GO!

Recently, according to ComicBook.com, Bruce Campbell was at the Wizard World Nashville Comic Con on Friday, and while there, a fan popped the question, “Are you going to make a sequel to Army of Darkness?

Campbell’s response was as follows;

The last one was twenty-two years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.

Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.

Campbell finally came clean on a serious note;

Alright sir, the answer is yes.

FUCK YES!

HAIL TO THE DEADITES: NEW EVIL DEAD DOCUMENTARY COMING SOON!!!

Groovy Evil Dead Ash Groovy Gif

From Fangoria:

Sam Raimi’s THE EVIL DEAD and its sequels have amassed an army of followers, and their passion for the films is the subject of a new documentary that is seeking contributors.

HAIL TO THE DEADITES is being directed and produced by DiggerFilms’ Steve Villeneuve, who previously celebrated independent horror in UNDER THE SCARES. This time, he says, “The goal is to make a documentary about the fans with the fans. We think the Deadites are a big and strong family, and making this film will allow us to reach out to each other. As a fan, I want to know them and I want to meet them. I want to share my collection and discover theirs. This film is not just for collectors; it’s for all the EVIL DEAD fans in general who made this franchise a classic.”

SAM RAIMI IS FINALLY WRITING ARMY OF DARKNESS 2!

Army_Of_Darkness_Banner_2_28_13

That’s right you primitive screwheads, listen up! In an interview with Fede Alvarez on Bloody Disgusting, he happened to drop a bit of news that Raimi and co. seemed more interested in getting a second Army Of Darkness off the ground before, perhaps, a sequel to the Evil Dead remake. Alvarez was quoted as saying, “The pressure is on them now. Because as far as I know, and heard, Sam is really determined to get Army Of Darkness 2 happening. He is actually writing [it now].” This seems to lend more credence to the news we reported on earlier of a potential crossover between the two Evil Dead universes. Whatever the case may be, Ash certainly said it best:

How could I have missed all of this back in March? Well I’m reporting on it now! Right now this news should be treated with extreme speculation, but rumors have been flying since WonderCon that Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez and the Raimi/Tapert/Campbell team have  further plans not only for the new Evil Dead franchise, but the entire Evil Dead franchise culminating in an eventual crossover with Army Of Darkness 2.

BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO FROM THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE

Though it appears to have been banned on any number of sites due to studio request, we here at Backwoods Horror have found a little over 15 minutes of behind-the-scenes video from the upcoming EVIL DEAD remake. Truthfully, however, I can’t bring myself to watch them as it’s been reported that they may contain spoilers and I’d like to go into the film with a fresh (as far as remakes go, anyway) take on the film. I just saw enough to make sure they’re authentic and for those of you who can’t wait to get more of a glimpse of the film and what went into making it, you will not be disappointed.

Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 5th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.

SYNOPSIS:

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

TWO NEW CLIPS FROM THE UPCOMING EVIL DEAD REMAKE

I don’t know about you (though I’ve got a pretty damn good idea) but I can’t wait for April 5th to come fast enough. Granted, when I first heard they were going ahead with THE EVIL DEAD remake, one of the most revered and beloved horror films of all time, I was in a fit of uncontrollable rage for days. But then something incredible happened. I saw the Comic-Con red-band trailer and something snap crackled and popped in my overtaxed brain. Perhaps, just perhaps, we’re going to be lucky enough to have a bonafide work of horror art on our hands; a fantastic remake the likes of which we hadn’t seen since John Carpenter’s THE THING.

The basic plot synopsis should be seared into every horror fan’s brain, but for those out there who, perhaps (HERESY!) haven’t seen the original:

DIRECTOR FEDE ALVAREZ SAYS NO CGI IN EVIL DEAD REMAKE

Source: io9

Director of the EVIL DEAD REMAKE, Fede Alvarez, has stated that all the glorious gore galore onscreen was done as complete practical effects work, using no computer generated imagery what-so-ever. I’m assuming he means the gore effects only, and isn’t referring to, perhaps, some few tweaks, enhancements, wire removals and things of that nature. I don’t care if CGI is used in that manner, what MATTERS is that every horrifying, blood-soaked, gore-caked scene seen in the film was done in-camera and on the set. Yes, Yes, YES! THAT’S EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE! Any long time (or, hell, short time) reader of Backwoods Horror knows that I absolutely DESPISE CGI effects when they can, and should, be done practically. It’s the difference, to me, between watching a cartoon version of what’s supposed to be happening, to seeing the real deal. My mind picks up on the difference at ONCE and I’m taken COMPLETELY out of the film. So, Fede Alvarez, my horror hat is off to you, sir, for making the effort and truly going for it.

This is what he had to say:

We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.”

Starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.

NEW OFFICIAL RED BAND TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE IS HERE!!!

NOW THE RED BAND TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE HAS FINALLY BEEN OFFICIALLY RELEASED TO THE WEB! And now you’ll be able to check it out below after the break! I’m actually incredibly excited about this. Why? BECAUSE I LOVE THE EVIL DEAD and even if the film does suck out loud, Raimi and company are still a part of it and I doubt they’d sign off on a piece of crap. From the teaser alone, I can’t wait to check this one out! I know, I know, I’m a philistine, but I can’t help it! The thing is, this trailer makes the film look gorier and JUST as insane as the original! In short, this looks like it’s actually going to be a damn good remake (not GREAT, mind you, but DAMNED GOOD).

THE FIRST TEASER POSTER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE REVEALED

During our break, the first poster was released for the upcoming EVIL DEAD remake. As with all teasers, it doesn’t give away much. What it DOES do, however, is make quite the promise: THE MOST TERRIFYING FILM YOU WILL EVER EXPERIENCE. We’ll see. I have my doubts, but you never know. There have, in the past, been one or two decent remakes. Given that THE EVIL DEAD is one of my favorite films of all time, it’s no secret that I’ve rallied against a remake. That being said, however, we have to remember that remake or no remake the original will always exist and always be the superior film. Does that mean I’ll never see the remake? Hell no, I’ll be first in line out of sheer curiosity. It’s human nature to stop and stare at tragedy after all.
