This flick, SEASON OF THE WITCH (not a remake of the Romero flick) looks fairly promising, DESPITE starring Nicholas Cage (who I haven’t been able to stand in ANYTHING other than RAISING ARIZONA).  Check out the Trailer and Poster/One Sheet below!

‘CRAZIES’ REMAKE TRAILER HITS THE WEB

Posted on 2nd October 2009 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

An official trailer for the upcoming February 26, 2010 release of THE CRAZIES remake has hit the web.  Check it out below!

Here’s a synopsis if you haven’t seen the Romero original (in which case, do so immediately).

A husband and wife in a small Midwestern town find themselves battling for survival as their friends and family descend into madness in The Crazies. A mysterious toxin in the water supply turns everyone exposed to it into mindless killers and the authorities leave the uninfected to their certain doom in this terrifying reinvention of the George Romero horror classic. Directed by Breck Eisner (Sahara), The Crazies is written by Ray Wright (Pulse, Case 39) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). The American Dream goes horribly wrong when the residents of this picture-perfect town begin to succumb to an uncontrollable urge for violence and the horrific bloodshed escalates into anarchy. In an attempt to contain the epidemic, the military uses deadly force to close off access into or out of town, abandoning the few healthy citizens to the growing mayhem as depraved killers lurk in the shadows. Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant); his pregnant wife, Judy (Radha Mitchell); Becca (Danielle Panabaker), an assistant at the medical center; and Russell (Joe Anderson), Dutton’s deputy and right-hand man, find themselves trapped in a once idyllic town they can no longer recognize. Unable to trust former neighbors and friends, deserted by the authorities and terrified of contracting the illness themselves, they are forced to band together in a nightmarish struggle for survival.

ROMERO’S ‘STAUNTON HILL’ HEADING TO DVD

Source: FANGORIA

Son of legendary Horror Maestro GEORGE A. ROMERO,  G. CAMERON ROMERO’s second fright feature (runner up to the unreleased THE SCREENING) STAUNTON HILL will be receiving its feature release on DVD October 6th (along with the long awaited TRICK ‘R TREAT) from Anchor Bay Entertainment.  he story follows a group of hikers who unwittingly become involved with a backwoods family by the name of Staunton.  Obviously, because this is a horror flick, things go downhill like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  I first talked about this film last July (Check it Out HERE).  But here’s some more details from our fiends over at FANGORIA:

Scripted by David Rountree (who also co-stars), STAUNTON HILL is set at the titular locale in the middle of a remote mountain area. A group of hikers arrive for a weekend jaunt and wind up on the Staunton family property—and needless to say, this twisted bunch doesn’t take kindly to trespassers, setting out to stalk and kill them. The junior Romero’s second fright feature after the as-yet unreleased THE SCREENING, STAUNTON HILL also toplines Kathy Lamkin (Tea Lady from the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake and its prequel), Cristen Coppen, Kiko Ellsworth, Christine Carlo, Paula Rhodes, Charlie Bodin, B.J. Hendricks and THE FUNHOUSE’s Cooper Huckabee; the makeup FX were created by Kevin Kirkpatrick, Dustin Heald and Mike Rotella. No special features have been announced for the disc, which carries a retail price of $19.97.

Below is a little DVD art.  I’m actually looking forward to this release!

ROMERO TO PEN ZOMBIE NOVELS

Posted on 15th April 2009 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , , , ,

Just came across this story over at Dread Central:

Rejoice zombie fans! Word has it that the godfather of the zombie genre, George A. Romero, is gearing up to bring us more of his pitch-perfect brand of undead mayhem in a startling new form.

Romero is in the final stages of negotiations with Grand Central Publishing of New York to bring fans two original novels that take place within the Dead universe.

To say that Romero is an authority on the modern-day zombie is a bit of an understatement. In fact I’d hazard to say there’s no one else on the planet more qualified to write a zombie book than George. The debut novel will brings fans exactly what they’ve been craving as it will feature Romero laying down the ground rules of the zombie epidemic right from the beginning of the end. Looks like we may even get a chance to find out why these things got up and started feasting.

Grand Central is set to publish the first book in the summer of 2010, with a second book to follow sometime after that. Look for more details on the books as soon as we get them.

Looks fucking sweet!  Better get my readin’ eyes out for these!

MEETING WITH GEORGE A. ROMERO

Here’s a video where I meet George A. Romero for the first time.  I’m a bit star-struck, I must say.  Another video will be coming soon about what I got signed and how the experience kind of sucked really (NOT GEORGE’S FAULT).

TEASER ART FOR ROMERO’S NEW ZOMBIE FILM

Posted on 12th November 2008 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , , ,

If you listened to Episode FIVE of THE BACKWOODS HORRORSHOW, you might’ve heard me mention something about a poster for the new Romero zombie flick.  Well, apparently the boils ‘n ghouls over at SHOCK TILL YOU DROP got a look at it and snapped a few pics.  The working title is still “OF THE DEAD” as they don’t have an official title yet.  I thought it was a fake photoshop workup by some fanboy at first but it seems somewhat legit.  Check out the art below and let’s hope that this one’s better than DIARY. Here’s the teaser art:

Romero’s House on Staunton Hill

Posted on 17th July 2008 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , , , , ,

G. Cameron Romero, son of legendary George A. Romero, has, of late, been following in his father’s devilish footsteps.  His newest feature, Staunton Hill, seems like it might be worth checking out.  The story follows a group of hikers who unwittingly become involved with a backwoods family by the name of Staunton.  Seems like it may be derivative somewhat of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but hell, what backwoods movie with a fucked up family isn’t these days?  Hopefully, being Romero’s son, G. Cameron Romero will be the new go-to guy for horror.  The trailer gives me hope.  I’m wondering if this flick will get theatrical distribution or go straight to dvd.  Let’s all hope we can see this one in a darkened theater.  Check out the trailer below.
