In case you missed the original release of the most comprehensive documentary on the entire Friday The 13th series that has been, or ever will be, released, you’ll get another chance coming this September.

RLJ Entertainment will be releasing CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES: THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF FRIDAY THE 13TH on DVD and Blu-ray release on Sept. 8, 2015  and on Digital on Oct. 6, 2015.  The film stars  Sean S. Cunningham (Friday the 13th), Corey Feldman (Stand by Me), Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Robert Englund (Freddy vs. Jason), Alice Cooper (Wayne’s World), Frank Mancuso Jr. (Ronin), Adrienne King (Friday the 13th), Amy Steel (“All My Children”), Ari Lehman (Friday the 13th), Betsy Palmer (I’ve Got a Secret), Erin Gray (“Silver Spoons”), Kane Hodder (Se7en), Lar Park Lincoln (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood), Robbi Morgan (Friday the 13th), and Stu Charno (Friday the 13th Part 2) and directed by Daniel Farrands.

CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES: THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF FRIDAY THE 13TH  takes viewers behind the mask on an epic journey into the making of the landmark horror franchise-from its humble beginnings in 1980 at a New Jersey summer camp to the blockbuster release of its 2009 “reboot.” Combining hundreds of rare and never-before-seen photographs, film clips, outtakes, archival documents, conceptual art and behind-the-scenes footage, and featuring interviews with more than 150 cast and crew members spanning all twelve films and the television series, CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES is the ultimate tribute to one of horror’s most iconic and enduring franchises.

Keep watching this space for a review folks. (I was supposed to get a review screener last year, but it never arrived. With any luck, I’ll get the blu edition of the film and will be able to comment not only on the documentary itself, but the supplementary contents as well).

INTERVIEW: DANIELLE HARRIS

BackwoodsHorror Danielle Harris Interview

Originally appearing in the Horror world as little Jaime Lloyd in Halloween 4, Danielle Harris instantly became a horror icon and gained a horror fan base that has stood the test of time. Taking a hiatus from Horror for a while, she came back for a starring role in Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake, after which she steadily became one of the best and most recognizable actors in the genre. Recently starring in Hatchet 3, making her directorial debut with Among Friends, and raising funds for the Fear Clinic movie, I give you the very first (i.e. phone instead of email) BackwoodsHorror.com interview. Boils ‘n Ghouls, Danielle Harris:

BACKWOODS HORROR:  Well I think the first thing I’d like to say is congratulations for Hatchet 3!

DANIELLE HARRIS:  Thank You.

BWH:  I just saw it last night and thought it was pretty good.

DH:  Awesome, I’m glad you liked it.

BWH:  I really, and I’m not just saying this, I thought you were the best part about it.

DH:  Thank you.

BWH:  I also read that you were getting married soon?

DH:  I am, where did you find that one?

BWH:  When I was doing some research for the interview, I found that you had mentioned it in another article so I wanted to congratulate you again.

DH:  Thank you. I’m getting married January 4th.

BWH:  Not too far off now.

DH:  I know, I’m in the midst of wedding planning. It’s been pretty insane.

BWH:  So, if you don’t mind my asking, how did you get started in the film business?

DH:  I was actually a beauty pageant kid. I did beauty pageants from about 5 until I was 7 and I won a pageant that took me to New York and I got a modeling agent. I was originally from New York, but was living in Florida at the time, so I moved back to New York and started doing commercials and TV Shows. I was in a soap opera called One Life To Live for a couple of years, and then I landed the Halloween movie [Halloween 4] and it was sort of all uphill and forward from there.

From The Press Release:

1428 Films, Panic Productions and Hutson Ranch Media have announced that the release date for Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th has been moved to Friday, September 13th, 2013. The documentary was originally slated for release on August 27th.

FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU
NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE ELM STREET LEGACY

“Because of the scope of the show and in order to craft the best, most interesting and entertaining look at the films and TV series, it became necessary to give the post-production process a bit more time,” says producer Thommy Hutson. “Ultimately, though, we are thrilled with the show and can’t wait for fans to get back to camp – and we think Mrs. Voorhees and Jason would be happy with the new date!”

“Having spent well over a year in production on Crystal Lake Memories, we wanted to take a little more time to give fans the definitive Friday the 13th documentary they’ve been waiting for,” explains writer/director Daniel Farrands. “Not only were we able to line up a couple of last-minute interviews for our bonus disc and record a full filmmaker commentary track, it just made more sense to wait a couple of weeks and release Crystal Lake Memories on the ‘unlucky day’ it celebrates: Friday the 13th.”

The three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of the documentary, which runs a staggering 400 minutes, can currently be pre-ordered exclusively via the film’s official website. An exclusive bonus disc containing approximately 4 hours of extended interview material will be included with orders placed on the website. After the soft release on September 13th, the film will be available to the general public on October 8th.

Corey Feldman (star of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) narrates Crystal Lake Memories, which features interviews with approximately 150 cast and crew members from all twelve Friday the 13th films and the syndicated television series, many of whom have never before appeared in on-camera interviews. Interview subjects include Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, Tom Savini, Danielle Panabaker, Sean S. Cunningham, Derek Mears, Betsy Palmer, Wes Craven, Robert Shaye, Alice Cooper and many more.

Crystal Lake Memories promises to be the definitive retrospective on the unstoppable Friday the 13th franchise. The film is written and directed by Farrands and produced by Hutson, who previously teamed up for the award-winning Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy.

ROBERT ENGLUND OFFICIALLY CAST IN BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON

Scott Glosserman’s BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON, is certainly picking up steam. While not quite completely funded just yet, a few days ago, we reported that Kane Hodder had joined the cast with a larger role than last time where he was just seen angrily walking away, and now news has come down the wire that another genre legend, Robert Englund, has signed on to be a part of the film as well to reprise his role as Doc Halloran. And if the news couldn’t get much better, Mr. Englund has also agreed to help produce the film as well.

Even though Englund & Hodder hav been the cast, and Englund is helping with production duties, the film cannot be made without the support of you guys. So if you would like to see the film come to fruition, please head on over to their Kickstarter campaign and help these guys bring forth more horror goodness and for more information, hit up their official Facebook page, and Twitter!

KANE HODDER TO JOIN CAST OF BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON

I happen to be a huge fan of Scott Glosserman’s BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON. I thought it was an incredibly inventive take on the slasher genre and our national obsession with serial killers. If you haven’t seen it, I definitely recommend you check it out! Kane Hodder made a brief cameo in the first film as a disgruntled neighbor and he’ll be returning for the sequel, BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON, and this time it’s a substantial role.

Kane Hodder had this to say about being cast in Glosserman’s BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON:

“I was happy to be a part of the first film. Had no idea what, exactly, I was getting myself into. But, Robert (Englund) asked me to do a favor and show up in front of the Elm Street house for a cameo, so I did it.

In retrospect, I’m so happy to have been a part of such an intelligent, clever Valentine to horror fans. I’ve been shouting the praises of Scott’s movie for several years now and I’m excited to be offered a more substantial role in the next one. It’s really important that we support indie horror and I can’t think of a bigger statement we’d all be making than getting this project fan-funded through Kickstarter. That would definitely send a message to Hollywood.”

Even though Hodder has been the cast, the film cannot be made without the support of you guys. So if you would like to see the film come to fruition, please head on over to their Kickstarter campaign and help these guys bring forth more horror goodness and for more information, hit up their official Facebook page.

ROBERT ENGLUND: AUTHOR, MEMOIRIST, ‘MAN OF YOUR DREAMS’

According to Shock Till You Drop, Robert Englund has a Memoir coming out from Pocket Books this October entitled: HOLLYWOOD MONSTER: A WALK DOWN ELM STREET WITH THE MAN OF YOUR DREAMS.

Quite a hefty title, and, of course, bibliophile that I am, I’ll be sure to let you boils ‘n ghouls out there know if it’s one for your horrific bookshelves.

REID, LANDAU, ENGLUND, & YOAKAM HEAD TO ‘THE LAND OF CANAAN’

So just what is THE LAND OF CANAAN?

Directed by Reginald La France from a screenplay by France and Mike McCartney and starring Robert Englund, Tara Reid, Juliet Landau, & Dwight Yoakam, among other horror legends, THE LAND OF CANAAN is about, well, here’s a synopsis from the imdb page:

After the goldfield hotel was built over an abandoned goldmine in 1908, the former owner George Winfield (Hopkins) gets a young prostitute, Elizabeth (Landau) pregnant, he chains her up in an old room, to a radiator. When she gives birth, the baby is thrown down an old mine shaft, and Elizabeth was left there to die. Cut to present, a group of friends, sneak into the abandoned hotel, to see if they can get any footage of any ‘hauntings’. But they start getting murdered one by one. Is the ghost of Elizabeth seeking revenge, or is someone taking a prank too far? What are you afraid of? In the Land of Canaan, trying to stay alive, will be the only mystery. Based on the true story of the murders and hauntings in the Goldfield Hotel in Nevada.

Thanks to Joey for the following:

NO ENGLUND IN ‘NIGHTMARE’ REMAKE?

Ok, first of all, let’s just say that this remake thing is, and has been, out of control.  It’s just money money money money moneeeeeey.  Sick of it.

Alrighty, now that’s out of the way, WHAT THE FUCK?  Robert Englund has said time and time again he’d reprise his role as Freddy if the script was good.  So what does this mean?  If he’s really turning it down and Brad Fuller isn’t just turning him away, that must mean the script is utter dog shit.  No big surprise.

More on this as it develops.
