“The famed horror team of director James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) and writer Leigh Whannell (Saw, Saw III) reunite with the original cast in the highly anticipated, spine-tingling follow-up INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, debuting December 24 on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Fans can delve deeper into “The Further” with more than an hour of bonus materials exclusive to the Blu-ray Combo Pack, including a three-part webisode called “Insidious: Spectral Sightings,” which gives an inside look at the business operations of Specs and Tucker from their early days as paranormal investigators through their investigation with Elise. Cast and crew highlights are also included in the three additional behind-the-scenes featurettes available exclusively on the Blu-ray Combo Pack, including a discussion about making INSIDIOUS 2 and what it was like to film at a haunted location. Fans can unlock secrets from this suspense thriller through two additional featurettes available on both the Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD. “Peripheral Vision: Behind the Scenes” takes fans onto the set of the film to see how it was created, and “Ghostly Transformation” follows the make-up effects used to create the ghosts in The Further.”
Arrow In The Head recently got their claws on the trailer for William Brent Bell’s (THE DEVIL INSIDE) upcoming werewolf film WER, and now, boils ‘n ghouls, we’ve got it up here on Backwoods Horror. While I wasn’t really the biggest fan of The Devil Inside, my favorite movie monster (as you all probably know by now) is the werewolf, so any news on a new werewolf film and I can’t help but be drawn to it…even if the trailer screams “stay away” with its overabundance of CGI and the werewolf itself looking more like a hairy hobo than the bi-pedal wolf from hell I hold near and dear to my heart.
Following the brutal slaying of an American family vacationing in rural France, a peculiar man living near the crime scene is blindly charged with their murders. Believing her client is innocent, expatriate American defense attorney Kate Moore and her team decide to take a scientific approach in order to prove his physical incapability to local authorities. As she delves into his enigmatic family history, she uncovers evidence that suggests the rebirth of an unexpected legend. When a bloodbath ensues, Kate must do whatever she can to survive the surrounding terror and prevent the chaos from spreading. A.J. Cook, Simon Quarterman and Brian J. O’Connor star.
“The first poster has hit for the new Werewolf film WER, from the director of THE DEVIL INSIDE, [William Brent Bell]. Star A.J. Cook stars as a defense attoney who learns her defendant, accused of murder, is actually a werewolf. FilmDistrict is releasing, and I’m curious to see, despite its large opening weekend, how naming THE DEVIL INSIDE on the one sheet will play. If you’ll remember, that film’s decision to close with a URL drew much ire from audiences.”
They had me at Werewolf Film. If any long time (or, hell, new) readers know much about my personal taste, I absolutely LOVE werewolf movies, even awful ones. Unfortunately, this poster isn’t telling us much so far, but I’m still looking forward to it. Hopefully the werewolf will actually LOOK like a werewolf instead of just an overly hairy Italian or Greek guy…
To celebrate of the upcoming release of INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2 this Friday the 13th, FilmDistrict released a mini-featurette titled ‘Masters Of Scare.’ Within the featurette, filmmakers James Wan & Leigh Whannell discuss a bit about the film and some of the secrets behind the art of making horror films frightfully scary again.
The horror team of director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell reunite with the original INSIDIOUS cast of Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Barbara Hershey and Ty Simpkins in INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, a terrifying sequel to the acclaimed horror film, which picks up the story from the end of the first film and follows the haunted Lambert family as they seek to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.
It’s been a bad decade for horror. While the early 2000s gave us plenty of memorable movies, from the original Final Destination to the zombie explosion following 28 Days Later, the years following have been a mixed bag; mostly terrible with a slew of bad remakes, and only a handful of really interesting fright-fests popping up in between (such as last year’s genre-busting Cabin in the Woods.)
Part of the problem, of course, is that we’ve become a generation of genre-savvy viewers who are growing harder and harder to scare. As we become increasingly reliant on technology, we’ve gained access to a great many things that earlier generations never had. We can watch news footage of atrocities from around the world, and the violent media helps to insulate us against the fake blood and gore on the screen. We’re also, as a whole, more cynical, more knowledgeable, and less afraid of the unknown – because in a world connected by the Internet, there’s very little “unknown” left.
All of which is not to say that we can no longer be scared. It just means that the things that frighten us have changed, and horror has taken a while to catch up.
So James Wan’s THE CONJURING hits the big screen today, and in celebration we’re offering up the new motion poster and clip for that other Wan flick coming out this year (Friday, September 13th) INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2.

Below you’ll find a teaser for the upcoming haunted house flick, INSIDIOUS, from DEATH SENTENCE director James Wan. For those who haven’t been paying attention in class, here’s a bit of plot synopsis:
When proud parents take possession of an old house to build a nest for their family, an accident results in one of their sons falling into a coma. The tragedy doesn’t stop there when they are beset by vengeful spirits from another realm.
