INTERVIEW: DANIELLE HARRIS

BackwoodsHorror Danielle Harris Interview

Originally appearing in the Horror world as little Jaime Lloyd in Halloween 4, Danielle Harris instantly became a horror icon and gained a horror fan base that has stood the test of time. Taking a hiatus from Horror for a while, she came back for a starring role in Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake, after which she steadily became one of the best and most recognizable actors in the genre. Recently starring in Hatchet 3, making her directorial debut with Among Friends, and raising funds for the Fear Clinic movie, I give you the very first (i.e. phone instead of email) BackwoodsHorror.com interview. Boils ‘n Ghouls, Danielle Harris:

BACKWOODS HORROR:  Well I think the first thing I’d like to say is congratulations for Hatchet 3!

DANIELLE HARRIS:  Thank You.

BWH:  I just saw it last night and thought it was pretty good.

DH:  Awesome, I’m glad you liked it.

BWH:  I really, and I’m not just saying this, I thought you were the best part about it.

DH:  Thank you.

BWH:  I also read that you were getting married soon?

DH:  I am, where did you find that one?

BWH:  When I was doing some research for the interview, I found that you had mentioned it in another article so I wanted to congratulate you again.

DH:  Thank you. I’m getting married January 4th.

BWH:  Not too far off now.

DH:  I know, I’m in the midst of wedding planning. It’s been pretty insane.

BWH:  So, if you don’t mind my asking, how did you get started in the film business?

DH:  I was actually a beauty pageant kid. I did beauty pageants from about 5 until I was 7 and I won a pageant that took me to New York and I got a modeling agent. I was originally from New York, but was living in Florida at the time, so I moved back to New York and started doing commercials and TV Shows. I was in a soap opera called One Life To Live for a couple of years, and then I landed the Halloween movie [Halloween 4] and it was sort of all uphill and forward from there.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN HYPOCRITICALLY CALLS FOR INDUSTRY SUMMIT CONCERNING HOW ON-SCREEN VIOLENCE CAUSES REAL LIFE VIOLENCE

“Weinstein, behind some of the bloodiest films ever made, says Hollywood should discuss its role after ‘Dark Knight’ massacre in Colorado,” reports the NY DAILY NEWS.

Harvey Weinstein — the legendary movie mogul behind some of the most violent films ever made — says Hollywood should look in the mirror in the wake of the “Dark Knight” massacre. Weinstein is calling for an unprecedented summit of the industry’s top filmmakers to address how on-screen violence might be leading to real-life bloodshed. “I think as filmmakers we should sit down — the Marty Scorseses, the Quentin Tarantinos and hopefully all of us who deal in violence in movies — and discuss our role in that,” Weinstein told the Huffington Post. Weinstein insisted that the Hollywood elite can’t “shirk our responsibility” for potentially inspiring the rampage in Aurora, Colo., that killed 12 people and wounded 58 others.’

This is an obvious political/PR move if I’ve ever seen one. Harvey and his brother have made their fortunes on violent films. Their very first production, in fact, was the fantastic 80’s slasher THE BURNING. It’s Tipper Gore and Joe Lieberman all over again. Some of the other genre films the Weinsteins have made a lot of money on that were incredibly violent, gory flicks were:

HARDWARE, DUST DEVIL, THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS, SCREAM, NIGHTWATCH (the Ewan McGregor one), MIMIC, SCREAM 2, THE PROPHECY 2, PHANTOMS, HALLOWEEN H2O: 20 YEARS LATER, THE FACULTY, THE CROW: SALVATION, SCREAM 3, PROPHECY 3: THE ASCENT, DRACULA 2000, MIMIC 2, Project Greenlight which produced FEAST, HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION, DARKNESS, CURSED, DRACULA 3: LEGACY, THE PROPHECY: FORSAKEN, VENOM, PULSE, GRINDHOUSE, HALLOWEEN (remake), ROGUE, THE MIST, HELL RIDE, FEAST 2: SLOPPY SECONDS, PULSE 2: AFTERLIFE, PULSE 3, FEAST 3: THE HAPPY FINISH, HALLOWEEN 2 (remake), PIRANHA 3D, SCREAM 4, APOLLO 18, and PIRANHA 3DD.

This list doesn’t even include all of the gory action/thriller films he’s been a part of, making buttloads of cash in doing so. So for him to do something like this is hypocrisy at its finest. The Weinsteins have their hands and money soaked in fake blood and gore. This is just ridiculous. Additionally, every on-the-level study done on violence in films vs. real life violence has shown that there is no connection whatsoever. There are things out there that do desensitize people to violence and slaughter: Slaughter House employees, for example, become incredibly desensitized and detached. The incident in Aurora Colorado was a hideous, tragic event, but it had nothing to do with the violence in the Batman films (which are rate PG-13 for cryin’ out loud!). It had everything to do with a crazy person doing a crazy, horrible thing. The MPAA already comes down hard enough on artists and their ability to create their films how they wish, and now we have a major Hollywood player who has made his fortune on violence suddenly wanting to bring everyone in the industry together to say “hey, maybe we shouldn’t make violent films), this WHILE he’s producing DJANGO UNCHAINED, a film I’m sure will be full of roses and butterflies. What a load of shit.

ROB ZOMBIE VIDEO INTERVIEW FOR HALLOWEEN 2

Just caught a video interview with Rob Zombie for his upcoming HALLOWEEN 2, wherein he touches upon the “evolved” Michael Meyers, the music in the film, and sounds generally confused about the whole thing during the first part of the interview.  Thanks to ComingSoon.net

NEW H2 TV SPOT

Here’s a look at the new H2 TV Spot promoting Rob Zombie’s upcoming “Extreme Vision Of  Terrifying” Shitfest.  I love the man’s musical career (up until Sinister Urge), and I even like House of 1000 Corpses and was blown away by The Devil’s Rejects, but come ON man, leave Halloween alone!

For those of you who are anticipating the film, however, here’s a clearer look at the new TV Promo spot:

According to the boils and ghouls over at Fangoria, the Creature Feature Host “UNCLE SEYMOUR COFFINS” for Rob Zombie’s upcoming H2 will be played by an actor better known to commercial viewers as the Geico caveman Jeff Daniel Phillips.  Check the link above for more info. and a side by side comparison.  I’d show you myself, but I’m having some image loading difficulties, so eat it!

UPDATE:  HERE’S A SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON:

“H2’s” CAPTAIN CLEGG AND THE NIGHTSTALKERS POSTER

Came across this over at Shock Till You Drop.  Niiiiiiice poster.  Music ain’t bad either.  Check it out:

This summer’s horror sequel Halloween 2 is going to feature the rockin’ tunes of Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures, a fictional band created solely for the film. You can listen to them here. Today, writer-director Rob Zombie posted some promo art pimping them out.

ET VIDEO FOR ZOMBIE’S ‘HALLOWEEN 2′

Came across some video on YouTube from Entertainment Tonight showing footage from Zombie’s upcoming Halloween 2.  Check it out!

HALLOWEEN 2 UPDATE!

Ok, I’ve come across quite a bit of news over the past few days for the upcoming Halloween (remake) sequel from Rob Zombie.

First up, apparently WIERD AL IS GOING TO BE IN HALLOWEEN 2!?  Is he going to be playing himself?  Crazy.  Apparently, he’s on some talk show with Dr. Loomis as Loomis is hawkin’ his new book about Michael Meyers (seems like Loomis is milkin’ that Meyers kid for all he can get).  Check out the still below:

Below is an image of Meyers apparently all fucked up.  Fire, as in the original Halloween 2 you think?  Check it out:

Interesting as I’ve heard Michael isn’t even wearing the iconic mask throughout much of the film.  Something like 75% of the film we see Meyers sans-mask according to my sources.  We’ll see.  Explains Tyler Mane’s huge-ass beard somewhat.  Michael Meyers…Wild Man/Biker/Heavy Metal Frontman?

And finally, from Dread Central, some video interviews you may find interesting:

HALLOWEEN 2’s CAPTAIN CLEGG AND THE NIGHT CREATURES-HEAR THEM NOW!

Ok, so a video has been posted to the mighty internets featuring Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures.  Here’s the shpiel from Shock Till You Drop:

Writer-director Rob Zombie is obviously having a blast exploring his vision of Haddonfield in the upcoming H2 (the Halloween sequel).

Two elements he appears particularly proud of is the TV personality Uncle Coffins (check out a TV spot that whips up a certain level of nostalgia for those who remember horror hosts) and the band Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures. Based on past blog postings from Zombie, this band will play at a Haddonfield Halloween party that is a big part of the film. This weekend, the first Night Creatures video was posted to MySpace. Give is a spin below.

In real life Jesse Dayton – of The Devil’s Rejects’ Banjo & Sullivan – is the band’s frontman.

Here’s that viddy:

Hmmm, the sound certainly goes along with the Backwoods Theme of my site, but…Haddonfield?  Hmmm.
