HARVEY WEINSTEIN HYPOCRITICALLY CALLS FOR INDUSTRY SUMMIT CONCERNING HOW ON-SCREEN VIOLENCE CAUSES REAL LIFE VIOLENCE

“Weinstein, behind some of the bloodiest films ever made, says Hollywood should discuss its role after ‘Dark Knight’ massacre in Colorado,” reports the NY DAILY NEWS.

Harvey Weinstein — the legendary movie mogul behind some of the most violent films ever made — says Hollywood should look in the mirror in the wake of the “Dark Knight” massacre. Weinstein is calling for an unprecedented summit of the industry’s top filmmakers to address how on-screen violence might be leading to real-life bloodshed. “I think as filmmakers we should sit down — the Marty Scorseses, the Quentin Tarantinos and hopefully all of us who deal in violence in movies — and discuss our role in that,” Weinstein told the Huffington Post. Weinstein insisted that the Hollywood elite can’t “shirk our responsibility” for potentially inspiring the rampage in Aurora, Colo., that killed 12 people and wounded 58 others.’

This is an obvious political/PR move if I’ve ever seen one. Harvey and his brother have made their fortunes on violent films. Their very first production, in fact, was the fantastic 80’s slasher THE BURNING. It’s Tipper Gore and Joe Lieberman all over again. Some of the other genre films the Weinsteins have made a lot of money on that were incredibly violent, gory flicks were:

HARDWARE, DUST DEVIL, THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS, SCREAM, NIGHTWATCH (the Ewan McGregor one), MIMIC, SCREAM 2, THE PROPHECY 2, PHANTOMS, HALLOWEEN H2O: 20 YEARS LATER, THE FACULTY, THE CROW: SALVATION, SCREAM 3, PROPHECY 3: THE ASCENT, DRACULA 2000, MIMIC 2, Project Greenlight which produced FEAST, HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION, DARKNESS, CURSED, DRACULA 3: LEGACY, THE PROPHECY: FORSAKEN, VENOM, PULSE, GRINDHOUSE, HALLOWEEN (remake), ROGUE, THE MIST, HELL RIDE, FEAST 2: SLOPPY SECONDS, PULSE 2: AFTERLIFE, PULSE 3, FEAST 3: THE HAPPY FINISH, HALLOWEEN 2 (remake), PIRANHA 3D, SCREAM 4, APOLLO 18, and PIRANHA 3DD.

This list doesn’t even include all of the gory action/thriller films he’s been a part of, making buttloads of cash in doing so. So for him to do something like this is hypocrisy at its finest. The Weinsteins have their hands and money soaked in fake blood and gore. This is just ridiculous. Additionally, every on-the-level study done on violence in films vs. real life violence has shown that there is no connection whatsoever. There are things out there that do desensitize people to violence and slaughter: Slaughter House employees, for example, become incredibly desensitized and detached. The incident in Aurora Colorado was a hideous, tragic event, but it had nothing to do with the violence in the Batman films (which are rate PG-13 for cryin’ out loud!). It had everything to do with a crazy person doing a crazy, horrible thing. The MPAA already comes down hard enough on artists and their ability to create their films how they wish, and now we have a major Hollywood player who has made his fortune on violence suddenly wanting to bring everyone in the industry together to say “hey, maybe we shouldn’t make violent films), this WHILE he’s producing DJANGO UNCHAINED, a film I’m sure will be full of roses and butterflies. What a load of shit.

R.I.P. SAGE STALLONE 1976 – 2012

Source: Bloody Disgusting

People Magazine is reporting some incredibly sad news as Sylvester Stallone’s 36-year-old son Sage Moonblood Stallone, who appeared with his father in Rocky V, was found dead in his Los Angeles home Friday, July 13th 2012.

Police officers were called to the house at 2:17 p.m. and discovered the body. There were no signs of foul play or forced entry.

LAPD Commander Andrew Smith tells People that reports that Sage died from a prescription overdose are premature. “It could have been a heart attack or a stroke,” he says, adding the coroner’s office will likely spend several weeks on a toxicology report before it can reach any such conclusion.

Sage’s attorney George Braunstein tells the mag that Sage’s housekeeper initially found him dead.

The contribution Sage made to the genre was large as he was the owner of Grindhouse Releasing, the company responsible for re-releasing new prints of The Evil Dead in theaters, while also bringing classics to home video such as Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, The Beyond and many more.

A RETURN TO TRUE GRINDHOUSE CINEMA WITH ‘DEAR GOD NO!’

HOW HAVE I MISSED OUT ON THIS?! After viewing the trailer (available on the official site and in a crappy version below), I was blown away by the potential badassery present in DEAR GOD NO!. Here it is, finally, a return to grindhouse form with so many of my favorite elements thrown in. Outlaw bikers, violence, bloodshed, tits, destruction, and even a nod to those squatchsploitation flicks I love so much such as LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK, and 1980’s NIGHT OF THE DEMON! GREENLIGHT FOR ‘MACHETE?’

Posted on 3rd February 2009 by aaron in News - Tags: , , , ,

Looks like the duo behind THE BURNING (That’s right, our friends The Weinsteins) have given a greenlight to a direct to dvd full length MACHETE starring none other than Danny Trejo.

This from HorrorMovies.ca:

While drinking some tequila and just chilling I stumbled on some pretty cool news via Filmz.ru. ToutLeCine is reporting that Machete is moving ahead quote;

If you are like me and cant read a lick of french you probably are asking yourself, who? what? when? Did the martians steal my baby? Translated to English courtesy of my cat it says that Danny Trejo has confirmed a Machete film is coming and in fact it will be a direct to DVD trilogy. Or something along those lines.

Frankly my french sucks ass. All I can say is Robert Rodriquez is involved, The weinsteins are putting it direct to dvd and its either going to be a trilogy or a one off film. Those of you who CAN speak french feel free to email me a proper translating.

What Is The MIDNIGHT MOVIE?

Posted on 5th September 2008 by aaron in Indie Horror News,News - Tags: , ,

Just came across the trailer for the upcoming flick MIDNIGHT MOVIE.  Sounds like it could be one hell of a show.  Here’s the synopsis from IMDB:

At a run down theater in a sleepy suburban town, a group of friends get together for a midnight screening of an early 1970s horror film. What they do not know is that the director/star of the film has something more in store for them than just a movie. Rumor says that he was killed in a psych ward massacre five years earlier, but the detective and doctor who witnessed the aftermath of the bloodbath suspect that he was at the heart of the slaughter and might not be dead. What none of them understand is that he has enshrined his soul into the film itself.

As the movie starts, the kids heckle the black-and-white movie, but are jolted when the movies gruesome killer butchers one of their friends on screen! They realize that it is not the prank that they had hoped it was as the killer from the film emerges into the theater to take them out one-by-one. Caught between the world of reality and the screens flickering shadows, these unsuspecting viewers confront their gruesome fate in the locked theater. Will they be able to overcome the supernatural killer and find their way out before they are pulled into the killers celluloid world?
