Director of the EVIL DEAD REMAKE, Fede Alvarez, has stated that all the glorious gore galore onscreen was done as complete practical effects work, using no computer generated imagery what-so-ever. I’m assuming he means the gore effects only, and isn’t referring to, perhaps, some few tweaks, enhancements, wire removals and things of that nature. I don’t care if CGI is used in that manner, what MATTERS is that every horrifying, blood-soaked, gore-caked scene seen in the film was done in-camera and on the set. Yes, Yes, YES! THAT’S EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE! Any long time (or, hell, short time) reader of Backwoods Horror knows that I absolutely DESPISE CGI effects when they can, and should, be done practically. It’s the difference, to me, between watching a cartoon version of what’s supposed to be happening, to seeing the real deal. My mind picks up on the difference at ONCE and I’m taken COMPLETELY out of the film. So, Fede Alvarez, my horror hat is off to you, sir, for making the effort and truly going for it.
This is what he had to say:
“We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.”
Starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.
