LIONSGATE EXPLORES THE DIBBUK IN A FEATURETTE FOR THE POSSESSION

THE POSSESSION, Directed by Ole Bornedal, and due for release on August 31st, 2012. Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis, the film (formerly THE DIBBUK BOX) is inspired by a 2004 Los Angeles Times story about a Jewish demon, or dibbuk, jinx box that went up for auction on eBay. But what is a Dibbuk exactly? All we know thus far is that it is, in Jewish lore, a type of malevolent demon. Now, Lionsgate, in preparation for the release of THE POSSESSION in just under a week has released a 3 minute featurette explaining in detail just what the Dibbuk is and what it represents.

SYNOPSIS:

One family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.
