George A. Romero’s new zombie epic, formerly titled …OF THE DEAD, has now received the title SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD. The film will be premiering at the TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. For pics from the flick, check out TIFF’s page for the film HERE!
This from SHOCK TILL YOU DROP:
Survival of the Dead follows a war-weary band of soldiers who are lured to a remote island that promises to be the last paradise on earth, only to discover that even here there is no escape from the appetites of either the living or the dead.
Says Romero, “We’re in the final stages of post-production and it’s great to come up for air and find out the film’s been chosen to appear at the Festival. It’s just a terrific honor.”
Ok…so apparently the new one IS going to be kind of a sequel to Diary. Fucksticks! Here’s the word from Shock Till You Drop:
In speaking with SchlockAroundtheClock.com, Romero explains the story, “starts with the blonde who drove away [in Diary of the Dead] and the national guardsmen who robbed the people. So those are the only characters that return. What it’s about is tribalism. How the Internet creates a Hatfields and McCoys situation. It’s on an island, where people have been lured by someone on the net as a safe haven, but really what these guys are trying to do is hold them up at the boat docks.
Ah hell, I was hoping for a non-sequel, but at least I think he’s going against the POV/Blair Witch style of direction this time. Still…it’s a Romero Flick…of COURSE I’m going to watch it. The dude could film zombies takin’ a shit and I’d watch it. In fact…(excuse us, Aaron has just gone into the bathroom with a makeup kit, MiniDV camera…oh GOD the smell…)
