DANTE TOMASELLI’S TORTURE CHAMBER COMES HOME NEXT JANUARY

Torture_Chamber

I’ve been a huge fan of Dante Tomaselli’s work since first viewing his films HORROR and SATAN’S PLAYGROUND. His films take on this incredibly horrific nightmarish quality I have yet to see equaled. Based on what I’ve seen so far, I am excitedly looking forward to his upcoming film TORTURE CHAMBER. And now we’ve finally received a release date for his next nightmarish vision of horror. Directed by Dante Tomaselli, TORTURE CHAMBER, is set to be released to DVD on DVD this January 28th via Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment, and stars Vincent Pastore, Christie Sanford, and Lynn Lowry among others. In another bit of news, what looks like the potential DVD box art has hit as well (though this is not confirmed). Check it out after the break!

Synopsis:

13-year-old Jimmy Morgan is possessed by an evil too powerful to be exorcised by any religion. After escaping from a mental institution, Jimmy is back with a vengeance – and an army of children who follow his every murderous desire. The town trembles in fear as the youths attack and abduct its residents – innocent and guilty alike – dragging their victims to an abandoned castle and subjecting them to grisly torments deep within its underground tunnels.

DANTE TOMASELLI TO POTENTIALLY REMAKE ALICE SWEET ALICE

Source: Bloody Disgusting:

If anyone is more equipped to direct a remake of the incredibly, weirdly artistic ALICE SWEET ALICE, it would be Dante Tomaselli, the man responsible for such nightmarish features as HORROR, SATAN’S PLAYGROUND, and the recently completed TORTURE CHAMBER. The filmmaker has a firm mastery on the more dreamlike side of the genre, with films that draw you into a world where things aren’t always what they seem and make the viewer feel as though they are taking part in a nightmare.

This from Bloody Disgusting:

With director Dante Tomaselli’s continues to complete TORTURE CHAMBER set to World Premiere at Sitges 2012 Festival in Spain, he’s currently working on a remake of Alfred Sole’s ’76 classic ALICE SWEET ALICE, in which a young girl is brutally murdered during her first communion and her strange and withdrawn older sister becomes the main suspect.

There’s no actual update as to whether or not this will happen, but until then Tomaselli is teasing the redo with the following poster. AFM is forthcoming, so maybe we’ll hear something more official in November?

In the original, “Paula Sheppard is Alice, a pouty, petulant problem child at that awkward age living with her precocious little sister Karen (Brooke Shields) and single mom. When Karen is murdered during her first communion and Alice takes her place in line, suspicion immediately falls on her. Then a diminutive killer in a yellow slicker and opaque mask continues the reign of terror, and Alice’s estranged father takes up the investigation to prove her innocence.

DARREN LYNN BOUSMAN’S THE BARRENS COMING TO BLU-RAY/DVD THIS OCTOBER

The last time we heard anything about Darren Lynn Bousman’s (SAW franchise, REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA) Jersey Devil feature THE BARRENS was months ago when a sales art poster was released for Cannes. Whether you’ve been a long time Backwoods Horror reader or have just joined the party, you may be aware that we are suckers for the ‘ol monster-in-the-woods horror flicks. While many other monstrous legends have often received the horror film treatment, the Jersey Devil has been woefully underdone, with perhaps the last decent film to broach the subject being Dante Tomaselli’s very creepy SATAN’S PLAYGROUND which came out in 2006 and featured Felissa Rose, Ellen Sandweiss, and Edwin Neal (the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Hitchhiker).

With Bousman at the helm, THE BARRENS, starring Stephen Moyer, Mia Kirshner, Erik Knudsen, J Larose, Allie MacDonald, Max Topplin and Peter DaCunha may give the Jersey Devil the monster film treatment it deserves. Now we have news that Anchor Bay will be releasing THE BARRENS via DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on October 9th. The film will also hit theaters in a limited release and additional big-screen showings based on fan demand via a partnership with Tugg.

SYNOPSIS:

Despite their reluctance, Richard Marlow takes his wife Cynthia, their young son Danny, and his teenage daughter Sadie to the Pine Barrens for a long weekend of camping and family bonding. As they arrive at the Wharton State Forest, a mutilated deer runs out into the road, nearly colliding with the Marlows’ car. Later that evening, another bloodied animal falls from a tree. Bad turns to worse when, in the middle of the night, a college boy camping nearby disappears into the woods. Nevertheless, Richard presses the family to hike further into the forest, to the spot where he used to camp with his father. He is feverish and a past wound on his arm appears badly infected, but when it begins to rain, there is no turning back. Richard’s sickness soon becomes debilitating, his headaches turn to hallucinations. What’s worse, he believes there is something stalking them…something with yellow eyes, pointed horns, and the wings of a bat – THE JERSEY DEVIL. The disfigured bodies of the missing camper and another college boy soon turn up. The Marlows must fight for their lives as the horrifying answer reveals itself in a shocking and tragic conclusion.

The discs will present the movie in 16×9-enhanced 1.78:1 widescreen, with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound on the DVD and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound on the Blu-ray; extra features include commentary by Bousman and cinematographer Joseph White and a deleted scene. Retail prices are $26.98 for the DVD and $29.99 for the combo pack.

BOUSMAN’S ‘THE BARRENS’ GETS FIRST POSTER FOR CANNES

The last time we heard anything about Darren Lynn Bousman’s (SAW franchise, REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA) Jersey Devil feature THE BARRENS was way back in October 2011. In honor of Cannes Film Market, however, Bousman and the marketing crew behind the film have released a wicked Stephen Moyer centric sales poster (below).
