DIRECTOR FEDE ALVAREZ SAYS NO CGI IN EVIL DEAD REMAKE

Source: io9

Director of the EVIL DEAD REMAKE, Fede Alvarez, has stated that all the glorious gore galore onscreen was done as complete practical effects work, using no computer generated imagery what-so-ever. I’m assuming he means the gore effects only, and isn’t referring to, perhaps, some few tweaks, enhancements, wire removals and things of that nature. I don’t care if CGI is used in that manner, what MATTERS is that every horrifying, blood-soaked, gore-caked scene seen in the film was done in-camera and on the set. Yes, Yes, YES! THAT’S EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE! Any long time (or, hell, short time) reader of Backwoods Horror knows that I absolutely DESPISE CGI effects when they can, and should, be done practically. It’s the difference, to me, between watching a cartoon version of what’s supposed to be happening, to seeing the real deal. My mind picks up on the difference at ONCE and I’m taken COMPLETELY out of the film. So, Fede Alvarez, my horror hat is off to you, sir, for making the effort and truly going for it.

This is what he had to say:

We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.”

Starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.

NEW OFFICIAL RED BAND TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE IS HERE!!!

NOW THE RED BAND TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE HAS FINALLY BEEN OFFICIALLY RELEASED TO THE WEB! And now you’ll be able to check it out below after the break! I’m actually incredibly excited about this. Why? BECAUSE I LOVE THE EVIL DEAD and even if the film does suck out loud, Raimi and company are still a part of it and I doubt they’d sign off on a piece of crap. From the teaser alone, I can’t wait to check this one out! I know, I know, I’m a philistine, but I can’t help it! The thing is, this trailer makes the film look gorier and JUST as insane as the original! In short, this looks like it’s actually going to be a damn good remake (not GREAT, mind you, but DAMNED GOOD).

THE FIRST TEASER POSTER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE REVEALED

During our break, the first poster was released for the upcoming EVIL DEAD remake. As with all teasers, it doesn’t give away much. What it DOES do, however, is make quite the promise: THE MOST TERRIFYING FILM YOU WILL EVER EXPERIENCE. We’ll see. I have my doubts, but you never know. There have, in the past, been one or two decent remakes. Given that THE EVIL DEAD is one of my favorite films of all time, it’s no secret that I’ve rallied against a remake. That being said, however, we have to remember that remake or no remake the original will always exist and always be the superior film. Does that mean I’ll never see the remake? Hell no, I’ll be first in line out of sheer curiosity. It’s human nature to stop and stare at tragedy after all.

OFFICIAL RED BAND TEASER TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE!

The official red band teaser trailer for THE EVIL DEAD remake has finally premiered and, amazingly, it actually looks pretty damn good. Weird, right? But that’s the thing with trailers, they’re often so better than the movies themselves these days. Ok, ok, I know I should judge the film before seeing it, and I WILL see it because I’m such an EVIL DEAD mark, but given the track records of remakes recently, I’m not overly hopeful.

HOWEVER, people have been flipping out about it. NOW THE VERY TRAILER EVERYONE’S BEEN TALKING ABOUT HAS FINALLY BEEN OFFICIALLY LEAKED TO THE WEB! And now you’ll be able to check it out below after the break! I’m actually incredibly excited about this. Why? THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE TRAILER HAS BEEN LEAKED!

Unfortunately, none of us here at Backwoods Horror were available to attend the New York Comic Con this year, which is a damn shame because while I’ve been deriding it as a useless, unnecessary remake (which I still believe to be true), the teaser trailer for THE EVIL DEAD remake premiered and, amazingly, we’ve been hearing nothing but good things about it.

HOWEVER, as I said above, the teaser trailer premiered at the NYCC and people have been flipping out about it. NOW THE VERY TRAILER EVERYONE’S BEEN TALKING ABOUT HAS BEEN LEAKED TO THE WEB! Of course, it’s blurry as it was taken shakily by a camera phone, but now you’ll be able to check it out below after the break! Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. A NEW BANNER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE MAKES AN APPEARANCE AT NYCC

While everything I hear about the EVIL DEAD remake just makes it sound like more and more of a giant, steaming pile of crap, one thing is definite: it’s getting a LOT of buzz. Recently at the New York Comic Con, a new banner has appeared. It seems like the filmmakers behind this needless remake are doing all they can to promote the hell out of it. I’ve tried not to pass judgement on the film before seeing it, but THE EVIL DEAD is a perfect horror film through and through, unnecessary of a remake. Given that and an untested director and a script partially written by Diablo Cody (one of the shittiest screenwriters of all time), things aren’t looking good…

Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Though news about the remake is being kept under wraps, for those of you who are actually excited about this film, you can check out the new banner below.

SYNOPSIS (as if you didn’t know):

FIRST SET IMAGE FROM THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE!

I somehow missed this news on THE EVIL DEAD remake. Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Though news about the remake is being kept heavily under wraps, Alvarez, via twitter, released the first set image from the film a few months back: the dark forest road leading up to the cabin. Check it out below!

VIDEO: SAM RAIMI TALKS EVIL DEAD REMAKE

From: Bloody Disgusting

Director Fede Alvarez is currently wrapping up photography on EVIL DEAD remake, FilmDistrict and Ghost House Pictures’ remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult-hit horror classic, now filming in Auckland, New Zealand. The film was written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues (with a polish by Diablo Cody) is produced by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man); Rob Tapert (30 Days of Night) and Bruce Campbell who played the popular Ash character in the original trilogy.

Now Raimi confirms what we’ve more or less been suspecting, that the character of Ash will not be in the remake. He told MTV, “No, that character’s not in this movie“. He also said that the new one is “gut-wrenching, scary and intense“. This all fits nicely with what I’m expecting from the movie so far. From what I’ve heard, this thing is intense and gory and stays true to the spirit of the original without copying its exact story. In other words, I’m expecting it to do what remakes are (at their best) supposed to do.

A core cast of young, fresh talent includes Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as Mia; Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red Riding Hood) as David; Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) as Eric; Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) as Olivia and Elizabeth Blackmore (Legend of the Seeker) as Natalie.

SYNOPSIS:

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Soooooo, what do I think about all this? I think that it sounds like they’re making a completely different movie than THE EVIL DEAD and it shouldn’t be called a remake at all. THE main character ASH isn’t even going to be in it and it doesn’t even follow the same story. What does this mean? It means they’ve made a completely different movie with elements similar to THE EVIL DEAD, making it a rip-off, not a remake, and to make matters worse, Diablo Cody (who has about the same writing talent as Stephanie Meyer) had a hand in the script. So, unlike other sites it would seem, while I think this may very well be an OK horror film, it shouldn’t have the name THE EVIL DEAD attached to it in any way. It should just be it’s own thing instead of marring the name of one of the greatest films of all time.

NEW BANNER MAKES AN APPEARANCE AT SDCC FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE

New banners for various horror films and remakes have been showing up for the coming San Diego Comic-Con. This one for the EVIL DEAD remake, while sparse, has me excited with some imagery from the original showing up to get viewers ready for the 2013 release. In theaters April 12, 2013 from director Fede Alvarez, Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, Bruce Campbell all star.
