THE BACKWOODS HORROR HATCHET 3 BLU-RAY GIVEAWAY!

Synopsis from Fandango:

Traumatized Marybeth (Danielle Harris) faces off against deformed psychopath Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) once again in this gory sequel that finds director B.J. McDonnell taking over the reins from series originator Adam Green, who penned the screenplay. Having just turned Victor Crowley’s head into raw hamburger with a point-blank shotgun blast, tormented heroine Marybeth must once more fight for her life when the deformed maniac resurrects yet again. Fortunately for Marybeth, a well-placed chainsaw rips Crowley clean in two, allowing her the opportunity to make her way to the closest police station, where Sheriff Fowler (Zach Galligan) is contending with drunken Mardi Gras revelers. Drenched in blood and carrying Crowley’s scalp, Marybeth is quickly hosed down and locked up in a cell. As Sheriff Fowler heads to Honey Island Swamp with his best men to investigate, his ex-wife, disgraced reporter Amanda (Caroline Williams) convinces Deputy Winslow (Robert Diago DoQui) to let her question Marybeth. Meanwhile in the swamp, Crowley descends upon the first responders tasked with cleaning up the shocking scene. With half the force heading in as back-up, Amanda realizes that they key to defeating Crowley may lie in his father’s remains, and talks Deputy Winslow into bringing Marybeth along as they head to a nearby town to retrieve them. By the time Amanda, Deputy Winslow, and Marybeth arrive in the swamp to confront Crowley, the madman has already massacred most of the police as well as a heavily armed swat team led by the fearless Hawes (Derek Mears). Should their bold plan fail, the trio will certainly die horribly. With no options left, they venture into the darkness to confront the legend that never dies.

FIRST LOOK AT VICTOR CROWLEY IN SDCC HATCHET 3 POSTER

Source: Bloody Disgusting

This Saturday, July 14th, Dark Sky Films and ArieScope Pictures will be distributing limited edition teaser posters for their upcoming horror sequel HATCHET 3 exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con. On-hand at SDCC to sign the posters will be writer/producer Adam Green, director BJ McDonnell, and cast members Kane Hodder, Zach Galligan, Caroline Williams, and Rileah Vanderbilt.

The teaser poster, featuring Kane Hodder as slasher icon Victor Crowley, offers fans their first look at producer Adam Green’s hotly-anticipated film.

The official HATCHET 3 signing will be held on Saturday, July 14th on the San Diego Comic-Con floor at area/table AA21 from 02:30 PM – 04:30 PM. Each fan who comes to the signing will receive a free limited edition poster, which will only be available at Comic-Con 2012. Fans can also catch Victor Crowley walking the convention floor throughout the day, and those who snap a picture of themselves with Crowley and tweet it (tagging @darkskyfilms), will be entered to win a Hatchet Army t-shirt and limited edition poster.

HATCHET 3 is a co-production of MPI/Dark Sky Films and Green’s Los Angeles-based ArieScope Pictures. The film marks cinematographer McDonnell’s directorial debut after having handled A and B camera operations on such features as Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN remake, Timur Bekmambetov’s ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER and Adam Green’s first two Hatchet films.

SYNOPSIS:

The story finds Danielle Harris hunting down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left Crowley’s ghost terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades. Mears will play a brooding, pompous SWAT team leader who is sent in to contain the carnage strewn about the haunted swamp. Williams will play a fast-talking journalist who fancies herself an expert on the legend of supernatural stalker Crowley.

BEHIND THE SCENES DANIELLE HARRIS PHOTOS FROM HATCHET 3

Over on her Official Blog, Danielle Harris (reprising her role as Marybeth in HATCHET 3, directed by BJ McDonnell) posted a few bloody behind the scenes photos, along with video from some Louisiana Morning show called Hollywood South. The film stars a who’s who of horror with Danielle Harris, Kane Hodder, Derek Mears (“Friday the 13th”), Caroline Williams (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2?), Sean Whalen (“The People Under the Stairs”), Diane Goldner (“The Collector”), Jason Trost (The FP), Zach Galligan (Gremlins) and Cody Blue Snider.

FIRST BEHIND THE SCENES GORE PHOTO FROM ‘HATCHET 3′ HITS THE WEB

BJ McDonnell has released the first gory behind the scenes photo from the set of HATCHET 3 on his facebook page. It’s no real shock to regular readers that, personally, I’m not the biggest fan of the HATCHET series thus far. The first film was…ok, but nothing special. The practical special effects were the star of that film. HATCHET 2, however, was godawful, with terrible story, acting, direction, special effects, and Danielle Harris’s weird, distracting eyebrow thing going on. I have low hopes for HATCHET 3, but who knows, I could be pleasantly surprised.

That being said, I realize a lot of you out there in gore land are big fans of the series, so I’ll continue to pass along news on the most recent film in the series as it develops. For now, feast your eyes on a bit of gutsy grue above.

NEW DIRECTOR FOR HATCHET 3

That’s right boils ‘n ghouls. Adam Green will not be returning to direct the next installment of the Hatchet series. Instead, he’s passing the reigns to the former cinematographer for the first two Hatchet flicks, BJ McDonnell. All I know of the plot for the upcoming Hatchet 3 is that it continues from where Hatchet 2 left off. I assume Green is still writing the script in crayon somewhere.

If you’ve been reading this site for a while, you may know my feelings about the Hatchet series. After a promising trailer that had me drooling for the flick for ages, I jumped on the hype machine and nearly drove to TEXAS just to see it in a theater. Luckily, I didn’t, as my drunken review from 3 years ago will tell you, Green dropped the ball. The thing is, he’s not a bad director. FROZEN is a very well done movie and shows that he can bring the talent when he wants to. But then there was Hatchet 2, and I’m sorry, but that movie was the largest steaming pile I’ve seen in a long time. The gore was over the top, and that’s fine, but the writing and the acting…GeeeeeeZUS it was awful. Some viewers are in it for just that sort of ride, however. They don’t care about the things that used to make horror movies great. They just want to see titties ‘n blood. Not that there’s anything wrong with two of the three B’s (Blood, Boobs, & Beasts), the Hatchet series has ’em in spades, but while all good horror films should have at least two of the three, Hatchet 1 & 2 having all three, that shouldn’t be ALL the film consists of.

While fresh directorial blood is being brought to the table for Hatchet 3, if the writing remains the same I’ll have issues with it, no matter how good it looks. That’s the thing with the first 2 Hatchet movies. Green could be blamed for the entire fiasco because he directed and wrote the films. He was wholly responsible and wholly accountable. It seems that when most people think of films being terrible, they only blame the director. Granted, the director is captain of the ship, and it’s his job to see that everything works together to make a great film, but people forget the other players. The admiralty (to continue the analogy) of producers/production houses control the film because they have the money. No matter what a director wants to do, if the production part of the film decides they want to cut something, put something in, or just shelve the whole project altogether, they can. And producer intervention has fucked up a lot of movies. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a story where it was a good thing. Then there’s the writer(s). You could look at the writer in our nautical analogy as the one who dreamed up the ship and charted the course to begin with. The writer is just as important as the director and a lot of people do not realize this. Bad writing means the end of a film before it’s even started because no matter how good the film looks, if the story and dialogue are garbage, it’s going to stand waaaaaay out. I could go into the actors being part of the crew, but who gives a shit about actors? They’re either good or bad and it’s up to the director to accurately decide which. So you see, Adam Green had a lot of control over his Hatchet movies, so when I say they were abysmal, and say it’s his fault, that’s why. None the less, given that he’s proven himself somewhat with Frozen, I’d like to see where he goes with any film NOT in the Hatchet series, and I’m interested to see where BJ McDonnell takes the franchise. Given the sub-genre, and the nods to Friday the 13th, could Hatchet 3 be 3D? That’s all the speculation you get!
