HIDDEN IN THE WOODS is being described everywhere as one of the most brutal exploitation films to come along in some time. Facing incredible controversy, the film includes such gems as extreme violence, sexual abuse, and cannibalism to name just a few. And now, thanks to Artsploitation Films, this Latin American grindhouse flick is going to finally see VOD & DVD release here in the US on September 17th. The disc will include a behind-the-scenes featurette, an interview with director Patricio Valladares, and an eight page collector’s booklet.
Following the it’s theatrical run, TOAD ROAD will be arriving on DVD & VOD this October thanks to a distribution deal through Arstploitation Films. Brian Sokel, vice president of Artsploitation Films, had this to say about the film …
“There is a nihilism and decay present within the characters of Toad Road that makes the film mesmerizing. The horror comes not from just a mystical location and inevitable conclusion, but a very real, very dark place in each of their hearts. It’s a unique film that must be seen.”
Director, writer and cinematographer Jason Banker directed and produced Toad Road, his first narrative feature, with Elijah Wood serving as executive producer.
Inspired by an urban legend, Toad Road is an intimate meditation on lost youth evocative of Gus Van Sant (with a racy touch of Larry Clark) and a radical deconstruction of genre cinema, a devastating and brilliant object of contemplation and dread, and a journey down unexpected paths. The story takes place in rural Pennsylvania near the town of York, an infamous area that – according to urban legend – has a trail in the woods containing the seven gates that lead to Hell.
