It has been announced that we’ll see THE WORLD’S ENDBlu-ray / DVD release in November. Now we have a look at the official cover art, along with details on bonus features. Check ’em out after the break!
Directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), The World’s End’s irresistible humor has made it the toast of film reviewers across the nation. Labeled “sheer comic perfection!” by Peter Travers of Rolling Stone and called “Hilarious!” by Entertainment Weekly’s Chris Nashawaty, The World’s End stars Simon Pegg (Star Trek Into Darkness, Paul) and Nick Frost (Snow White and the Huntsman, Paul). This is the third and final film in Wright’s The Ultimate Three Flavors Cornetto® Trilogy, which also features hits Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz starring Pegg and Frost, available exclusively on Blu-ray November 19th.
The World’s End also stars Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes), and Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher). The Blu-ray™ Combo Pack serves up more than two hours of bonus content, including a gag reel, feature commentary with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and an insider’s look at the making of the funniest reunion picture ever made.
Few images in film are as startling as that moment in “Alien” when the baby chestburster comes crawling out of of John Hurt’s torso in a spray of gore. It was so gripping, the slimy little parasite was brought back for the sequel, “Aliens.” Even better, it was created without the assistance of CGI.
A video shared by the Stan Winston School of Character Arts lets us all in on how that nasty little surprise was created. The video is narrated by Stephen Norrington, the special-effects wiz who built the device. He started with dental acrylic poured into a mold of the monster, cut it into pieces using a bandsaw, and held it all together with a cable-housing spine.
With THE WORLD’S END now in theaters, check out 16 minutes of behind-the-scenes b-roll footage! We should warn you, however, that if you have yet to see THE WORLD’S END (what are you waiting for?), the footage does contain some spoiler-esque material, so view at your own peril. PERIL, I SAY!
Directed by Edgar Wright, THE WORLD’S END stars Wright regulars Simon Pegg & Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan, and Rosamund Pike. The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy (also known as the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy), the unofficial Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost trilogy that began with Shaun of the Dead finally comes to an explosive end.
I’m not quite certain whether PACIFICRIM falls under horror or sci-fi…perhaps both. When you have giant space creatures tearing apart the world, that tends to be a rather frightening thing. Guillermo Del Toro has created just that with a somewhat live action Neon Genesis Evangelion, an anime series that follows a similar narrative course. In fact, I’m surprised I haven’t heard mention of any lawsuits. But, while I would’ve preferred his dream project: H.P. Lovecraft’s AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, I do have to say this looks pretty damn cool. Perhaps, if PACIFIC RIM is a blockbuster hit (and why wouldn’t it be? If that hack Michael Bay can make bazillions with horrible giant robot/alien films, why can’t a directorial genius like Del Toro pull it off with PACIFIC RIM?), Del Toro may be able to secure the finances he’s needed in order to make his epic vision of Lovecraft’s fantastic novella (if you haven’t read it, DO IT NOW!).
In the film, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
PACIFIC RIM stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day and is set to be released in 2D and 3D on July 12, 2013.
Here’s some creepy test footage from Ridley Scott’s ALIEN featuring Bolaji Badejo, who played the Xenomorph Alien in the classically badass 1979 sci-fi horror masterpiece. In the footage you see the actor practicing his alien movement skills without the full costume.
Badejo had to say this about the costume he wore in the film in 1979 in an interview with Cinefantastique magazine:
[The special-effects helmet] was all manual, remote controlled […] There’s still a space in it for my head. I had it on just to make sure nothing goes wrong with the posture of the head or how tall it is in comparison to the other sequences. They must have had about 2000 tubes of K-Y Jelly […] just to get the effect of that slime coming out of his mouth. A lot of it was spread around on the face. I could barely see what was going on around me, except when I was in a stationary position, while they were filming. Then there were a few holes I could look through.
“Yes, Newt. Mommy was wrong. There really are monsters, and here’s one you can cuddle up with!”
Straight from your friends at Better Worlds Toys(TM), a division of the Weyland-Yutani corporation, comes the rebirth of a classic plush replica. That’s right, once more you can know the pleasure of owning your very own Aliens Chestburster without the parasitic infestation or the resulting xenomorphic carnage!
Ok, so maybe there isn’t a Better Worlds Toys(TM) but if Weyland-Yutani had a toy division we’re betting that’s what it would be called. However, the Chestburster Plush is 100% real and ready to cuddle up with you!
The Chestburster Plush is an officially licensed 20th Century Fox 1:1 scale replica of the original nymph-stage Xenomorph. Constructed of smooth velour that matches the color of the original design, the plush measures 48″ in length. Inside, a wire runs from the head to the tail, allowing you to pose the Chestbuster just the way you want it. It can even stand up on its own! Arms, teeth and inner jaws are all finely detailed. You’ll feel like you have an actual film prop.

Ridley Scott, according to 20th Century Fox, is back to direct a prequel for the ALIEN/ALIENS franchise. Jon Spaihts, whoever the hell that is, is set to write the prequel (with, I hope, some Ridley Scott input). More as this story develops!!
