Ah, what can I say about ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER other than I find the idea appalling at best, and a sickeningly vile attempt to cash in at worst. That being said, however, if you’re unfamiliar with some of the details of this nightmare, let me fill you in. The film is directed and produced by Timur Bekmambetov (NIGHT WATCH, WANTED) with producing duties also picked up by Tim Burton (whose films you’re aware of if you’re reading this and who, I’ve come to believe, has gone insane).
The film will star Benjamin Walker (narrowly beating our Nicholas Cage which is a real shame as, given the insane idea behind this flick, would’ve been perfect for the role) as ‘ol honest Abe himself. Also starring are Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rufus Sewell, Jimmi Simpson, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Robin McLeavy, Alan Tudyk, Marton Csokas, and Cameron M. Brown. Opening here in the U.S. on June 22 (an odd time slot), the film explores the secret vamp-killing life of our 16th president, and the untold history that shaped our nation.
As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.
