In yet another example of a severe lack of ideas, THE MUNSTERS reboot is still a go for NBC. The new version will be titled MOCKINGBIRD LANE, written by Bryan Fuller (PUSHING DAISIES, DEAD LIKE ME) and starring Eddie Izzard and Charity Wakefield. Additionally, it has been reported that Mason Cook (SPY KIDS 4D) will be joining the cast as the young werewolf Eddie Munster.

Bryan Singer (producer of one of my new favorite horror films TRICK ‘R TREAT) is slated to helm the pilot episode. The pilot is described as a “re-imagining” of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and a Frankenstein-esque monster, and their “plain” cousin (played in the reboot by Charity Wakefield) — that will feature interesting themes and visuals in the vein (pun intended) of Fuller’s PUSHING DAISIES. Cook, playing Eddie Munster, is Lily and Herman’s only child, an earnest boy scout and budding werewolf. Horrified to learn the truth about himself, he refuses to eat meat, arguing with Grandpa (portrayed by Eddie Izzard) around the dinner table.

Hmmmm, I have a lot of fond memories of the original series, and still watch the show when in need of a good chuckle. Still, with the talent of Fuller and Singer behind the project, I may find myself actually enjoying it. Below is an example of concept art for the house at 1313 Mockingbird Lane and character design from Entertainment Weekly.
