I think it’s fairly obvious that we here at BackwoodsHorror are huge SCREAM FACTORY fans. A division of SHOUT! Factory, this company has been putting out some of the finest blu-ray editions of fan favorites for some time, reminding me of the glory days of Anchor Bay…perhaps even better. And now they’re releasing two of my favorite Kevin Tenney films: Witchboard, and perhaps my favorite, Night of the Demons on Blu-ray on February 4th, 2014. Check out the cover art and full specs after the break!
From The Press Release:
“The famed horror team of director James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) and writer Leigh Whannell (Saw, Saw III) reunite with the original cast in the highly anticipated, spine-tingling follow-up INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, debuting December 24 on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Fans can delve deeper into “The Further” with more than an hour of bonus materials exclusive to the Blu-ray Combo Pack, including a three-part webisode called “Insidious: Spectral Sightings,” which gives an inside look at the business operations of Specs and Tucker from their early days as paranormal investigators through their investigation with Elise. Cast and crew highlights are also included in the three additional behind-the-scenes featurettes available exclusively on the Blu-ray Combo Pack, including a discussion about making INSIDIOUS 2 and what it was like to film at a haunted location. Fans can unlock secrets from this suspense thriller through two additional featurettes available on both the Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD. “Peripheral Vision: Behind the Scenes” takes fans onto the set of the film to see how it was created, and “Ghostly Transformation” follows the make-up effects used to create the ghosts in The Further.”
It’s book central here at Backwoods Horror today it’d seem. I’ve had a copy of both of Tom Savini’s amazing GRANDE ILLUSIONS books for some time (one signed by the man himself), having found them in a box of books donated to the library I was working in at the time. You can imagine the freak-out that followed for yourselves. It was like finding buried treasure. On the inside cover of both, it said that the books were published by Morris Costumes specifically for the costume trade and have been, for the longest time, difficult to get ones claws on. It’s always been one of the high points of my collection. Now, it would seem, the rest of you finally get your chance to check out these amazing books in a re-release that combines both books into one mighty tome you’d be proud to have on your horror shelves.
“Ossian Brown was a member of the dark, magical electronic music group Coil and is currently in Cyclobe, a duo with his partner Stephen Thrower. Ossian is a strange attractor. Weird things find him. Like his exquisite collection of antique vernacular photographs of Halloweens past. Brown compiled his favorites of the freaky found photos, all dating between 1875 and 1955, into a lovely new book titled Haunted Air. David Lynch wrote the introduction and Geoff Cox the afterword. Here is a glimpse of how the old, weird America celebrated All-Hallows Eve.”
From The Press Release:
“For more than two decades, writer-director Guillermo del Toro has mapped out a territory in the popular imagination that is uniquely his own. From his first feature-length film, the modern classic Cronos, to his best-selling novels, to his latest movie Pacific Rim, del Toro has proven himself to be a one-of-a-kind creative visionary able to bring his singular sensibility equally to Hollywood blockbusters such as Hellboy and to more personal projects such as the Oscar–winning Pan’s Labyrinth. Now comes a gift and gorgeous keepsake for his legions of fans: GUILLERMO DEL TORO CABINET OF CURIOSITIES: My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions (Harper Design; On Sale October 29, 2013: $60.00, 256 pages; ISBN: 978-0-06-208284-8), a lavishly illustrated book that is an intimate look into one of the most imaginative minds of this century. GUILLERMO DEL TORO CABINET OF CURIOSITIES—written with New York Times best-selling author and filmmaker Marc Scott Zicree—contains notes, drawings, and untold creatures from Guillermo del Toro’s private journals and filmmaking diaries, with never-before-seen characters, art, and ideas of things to come. The book is a captivating, intimate glimpse into the life and mind of one of the world’s most creative visionaries.
Eureka! Entertainment announced the home video release of an eagerly awaited new restoration of F. W. Murnau’s legendary silent cinema horror classic NOSFERATU: A SYMPHONY OF HORROR (1922), expertly restored in Germany by the world-renowned Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung.
From Bloody Disgusting:
The earliest adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” has become one of the most iconic and of all horror films – and silent films – in the history of cinema, ranked #21 in Empire magazine’s 2010 poll of the 100 greatest films in world cinema and included in the recent Critic’s Poll by Sight & Sound magazine as one of the 250 greatest films ever made. With an incomparable lead performance as the vampire by Max Schreck — whom some believe to have been an actual vampire, it is the film behind E. Elias Merhige’s John Malkovich-starring Shadow of the Vampire and the inspiration behind Werner Herzog’s Klaus Kinski-starring 1979 feature adaptation, released theatrically by the BFI in the UK on November 1, 2013.
Following a UK & Eire theatrical run where it will open in cinemas nationwide from Friday October 25, 2013, Blu-ray, Dual Format (Blu-ray + DVD) SteelBook and DVD editions featuring a raft of special features to be announced nearer the release date, will be released as part of Eureka! Entertainment’s award-winning The Masters of Cinema Series on November 18, 2013.

Miss Cakehead will soon host her annual Eat Your Heart Out pop-up Halloween cake shop from October 25th-27th, 2013 in London. This year’s event is titled “Feed The Beast” and will feature gory treats like these macabre hand-painted life-sized chocolate hands and feet flavored with Kraken Rum (the event’s sponsor) by the food artists at All Mine Patisserie. She says, “We’re pretty confident in laying down the gauntlet and saying that these will be the best liqueur chocolates you will ever see, plus of course being made with a dark spiced rum means they taste amazing.”
The definitive book on B-Movie king Charles Band is finally coming out from Hemlock Books UK this November! Believe it or not, it’s even authorized by Charles Band which is surprising because I’m sure it’s going to talk about everything – warts ‘n all. Additionally, a new documentary is also coming out about Empire Pictures as well from Ballyhoo Motion Pictures, so it looks like it’s going to be a good time for fans (like me) of the insane world of B-Movies. For more on the book, check out the facebook group, and the to follow updates on the upcoming documentary on its facebook page.
