WELCOME TO THE BACKWOODS

My name is Aaron J. Howell and I’ve been a horror fan & writer for as long as I can remember.  Welcome to Backwoods Horror.  Come on in and sit a spell by the fire.  Within these pages you’ll find horror news, reviews, rants, ravings, and eventually some audio and video. I’m not only a fan of horror and exploitation movies, but films I’ve come to define as “Dirty South” flicks.  Movies like White Lightning, Slingblade, Black Snake Moan, Deliverance, Hunter’s Blood  and the like.

As I said, I am, obviously, a writer, having written short stories and published articles. I’m currently working on a variety of screenplays, my ultimate goal being to write and direct horror films. I’ve been a director and a producer on various independent short films and I’m looking to branch out into feature films under my Backwoods Productions/Backwoods Films banner.

Some members of the Backwoods Horror family:

AARON J. HOWELL: Editor In Chief / CEO / Designer / Lead Writer

STEPHANIE L. DAVIS: Chief SMO & SEO Consultant / Chief Social Media Officer & Expert / Publicist

OWEN J. HENTY: Web Designer / Coder / WordPress Expert / Technical  Wizard

  2. Hey,

Just heard the name of your website mentioned on The Midnight Horror Show so I thought I would stop by and see what this is about. Nicely designed site! I also noticed that you like horror podcasts. Well if that’s the case stop by my website http://www.thedarkhours.net. Isn’t much to look at, but I put out a killer podcast biweekly. Let me know what you think!

  3. Glad you stopped by. I’ve been on something of a hiatus for a while, but I’m back and I may try and get back on the Midnight Horror Show as well. Those guys are crazy! I will be starting THE BACKWOODS HORRORSHOW back up as well, with new co-hosts and, potentially, interviews and such.

    Keep it Creepy!

  4. Hey Aaron,

Great site! I came across it because the name is more or less the name of my gothic roots project album…great minds think alike I suppose. As a true southerner from the great state of Tennessee, I wish you hella success and if you ever need another voice on the podcast, hit me up! =)

  6. gNA gIANNI,
I assume you’re talking about INTO THE PIT: THE SHOCKING TRUE STORY OF DEADPIT.COM! The short answer is, it ain’t out yet, so you’re still gonna have to wait a while. I got a screener copy for review. If you’re a big fan of the Deadpit.com boys, it will definitely be a MUST HAVE!

Keep It Creepy! & Thanks for stoppin’ by the shack!

  7. Eric,
The site is still a work in progress. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time I’d like to work on it and the podcast more, but hopefully that’ll be changing soon. Havin’ you as a guest on the show might be cool, I’ll just have to figure out how to record skype or something. Normally we just record on an iPhone, Owen does his command line (or, Terminal in this case) magic, sends it to my lappy and I edit. Thanks for stopping by the site!

    Keep It Creepy!
