Sam Raimi’s THE EVIL DEAD and its sequels have amassed an army of followers, and their passion for the films is the subject of a new documentary that is seeking contributors.
HAIL TO THE DEADITES is being directed and produced by DiggerFilms’ Steve Villeneuve, who previously celebrated independent horror in UNDER THE SCARES. This time, he says, “The goal is to make a documentary about the fans with the fans. We think the Deadites are a big and strong family, and making this film will allow us to reach out to each other. As a fan, I want to know them and I want to meet them. I want to share my collection and discover theirs. This film is not just for collectors; it’s for all the EVIL DEAD fans in general who made this franchise a classic.”

HORROR JOURNALIST TAL ZIMMERMAN EXPLORES THE DEEPER CONCEPTS OF HORROR IN NEW DOCUMENTARY ‘WHY HORROR’
Why Horror is a feature documentary following horror fan Tal Zimmerman as he looks at the psychology of horror around the world in order to understand why we love to be scared.
Horror entertainment instantly attracts or repulses audiences. And yet, it’s a global phenomenon. Millions of people love it, but horror fans are often misunderstood. Tal Zimerman should know. He’s one of them.
Tal is a horror journalist and a full-fledged fan of everything deep dark and disgusting. But lately he’s been asking himself WHY? Why is it that he and millions of other people are obsessed with horror?
That’s right boils ‘n ghouls. Perhaps one of the greatest Halloween Horror films to come our way in decades, TRICK ‘r TREAT is finally getting a sequel. While I think the film is one of those masterpieces that doesn’t necessarily need a sequel, with the right people involved, I think we, the fans, may very well have another masterpiece on our hands!
[Recently, at the] Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles, there was a special screening of Trick ‘r Treat for Beyond Fest. This screening was also live streamed and featured a Q&A with Bryan Singer and stars of the film. It was during the Q&A that the subject of “Trick ‘r Treat 2? was brought up. Michael Dougherty, the film’s director, said it was out of his hands. That’s when a representative from Legendary Pictures stood up and shouted “Let’s make a sequel!” and then the screen behind the Q&A participants lit up with the Trick ‘r Treat 2 logo. It was also revealed that Dougherty would be directing the new film.
UPDATE: 6 DAYS LEFT TO MAKE THIS DREAM A REALITY! HEAD ON OVER TO THE INDIEGOGO PAGE AND CHECK IT OUT!
Source: Vince Collura & The Official Z*Con IndieGoGo Campaign:
Z*CON is feature length film about four teen podcasters who are trapped at a comic convention when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. They use social media to share what’s going on inside with the outside world. It’s kind of like “Goonies” meets “Shaun of the Dead” set in…well….a comic convention.
Oh…and 100% of the net proceeds from this film will go to charities such as The American Red Cross & Kids Need To Read! Pretty cool idea, huh? The IndieGoGo Campaign will be running from October 1st (hey, that’s today, so why aren’t you already donating?!) until November 9th, so while you have 40 days to contribute, you never know when the zombie apocalypse will hit, so head on over and start helping with the funding now!
I, for one, am incredibly excited about this project. If there’s any place for a zombie outbreak to occur, it’s going to be at a Con. Of course you’ll have your cowards and pants-pissers, but if I know anything, I know Con people, and I can guarantee that at least half (and this is a conservative number) have a zombie outbreak plan all ready to go. Weapons, however, will definitely prove an issue when all you have to work with is fake props and “boffer” swords. Regardless, we geeks are a hardy crowd and a zombie outbreak inside of a Con, while a nightmare to some, is a dream come true for horror fans!
