Filleting-up numerous facts, which will appeal to both the seasoned follower of shock-cinema, and the more passive fan of fear-films, and featuring interviews with Corey Feldman (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter), Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), Mick Garris (Masters of Horror), Tom Holland (Child’s Play), Jeffrey Reddick (creator: Final Destination), Adam Green (Hatchet) and Scott Spiegel (producer: Hostel series) to name but a few, this is a documentary which aptly investigates the appeal of the ever-endurable stalk and slash trend. Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever explores all of the genre’s most famous features – including Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Halloween and Friday the 13th – as well as various cult obscurities and long forgotten flops!

BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO FROM THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE

Though it appears to have been banned on any number of sites due to studio request, we here at Backwoods Horror have found a little over 15 minutes of behind-the-scenes video from the upcoming EVIL DEAD remake. Truthfully, however, I can’t bring myself to watch them as it’s been reported that they may contain spoilers and I’d like to go into the film with a fresh (as far as remakes go, anyway) take on the film. I just saw enough to make sure they’re authentic and for those of you who can’t wait to get more of a glimpse of the film and what went into making it, you will not be disappointed.

Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 5th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.

SYNOPSIS:

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

TWO NEW CLIPS FROM THE UPCOMING EVIL DEAD REMAKE

I don’t know about you (though I’ve got a pretty damn good idea) but I can’t wait for April 5th to come fast enough. Granted, when I first heard they were going ahead with THE EVIL DEAD remake, one of the most revered and beloved horror films of all time, I was in a fit of uncontrollable rage for days. But then something incredible happened. I saw the Comic-Con red-band trailer and something snap crackled and popped in my overtaxed brain. Perhaps, just perhaps, we’re going to be lucky enough to have a bonafide work of horror art on our hands; a fantastic remake the likes of which we hadn’t seen since John Carpenter’s THE THING.

The basic plot synopsis should be seared into every horror fan’s brain, but for those out there who, perhaps (HERESY!) haven’t seen the original:

SYNOPSIS:

NEW LORDS OF SALEM CLIPS AND PROMOTIONAL ART

Opening April 14th, Rob Zombie’s new epic THE LORDS OF SALEM will be hitting theaters and to prepare us for the visual insanity certain to ensue (as if we’re not already frothing at the mouth waiting for a new original Rob Zombie film), multiple clips have hit the web along with new promotional art from the SXSW showing. Check ’em out after the break!

Sheri Moon Zombie, Meg Foster, Ernest Thomas, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Torsten Voges, Bruce Davison, Billy Drago, Richard Lynch, Lisa Marie, Maria Conchita Alonso, Ken Foree, Barbara Crampton, Michael Berryman, Sid Haig, Judy Geeson, and Patricia Quinn star in the film which has yet to secure a release date but has been picked up by Anchor Bay films in a heated bidding war.

SYNOPSIS:

Sheri Moon plays Heidi, a DJ at a local radio station, who, together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster), forms part of the “Big H Radio Team.”

A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, a gift of the Lords. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lord’s record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.

Later, White plays the Lord’s record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with his listeners.

The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon, Heidi and her cohorts are far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting. The original Lords or Salem are returning and they’re out for blood.

300 years earlier on the very streets of Salem that the townspeople walk on today, innocent folk were rounded up from their homes, convicted of being witches and sentenced to death. The Lords of Salem ran the town with an iron fist, but four witches who were tortured and killed in secrecy vowed that one day they would be back for revenge.

JIM VAN BEBBER’S THE MANSON FAMILY FINALLY GETS THE BLU-RAY TREATMENT IT DESERVES

Posted on 2nd March 2013 by aaron in News

Those of you who regularly take a gander at Backwoods Horror may know that I have a special place in my dark little heart for Jim Van Bebber. Everything the man has done has been exploitation gold with THE MANSON FAMILY standing (thus far) as the pinnacle of his achievements. I recall, years back, getting my hands on a copy without knowing anything about it and thinking “Holy Hell, I’ve just discovered a long lost classic!” That’s still how it feels whenever I view anything the man does. It seems as though his work has been borne forth from the primordial genius of late 60’s, 70’s, and early 80’s grindhouse classics, the kind of work Joe Bob Briggs devoted his life to covering. Yeah, it’s that kind of fantastic. Below you’ll find the press release from Severin Films who, by the way, are doing us all a service by putting their hard work into treating this masterpiece with the dignity and respect it deserves. Oh, and as an extra goody, as if THE MANSON FAMILY Blu-Ray weren’t enough, they’re bringing the film back to select theaters across the country as well, so Van Bebber fans (including me) rejoice. Check out all the pertinent details in the press release below!

LOS ANGELES, CA – Severin Films announced the May 7th Blu-ray debut of Jim VanBebber’s legendary, award-winning indie THE MANSON FAMILY on the 10th anniversary of its original release. US theatrical dates in 20 major cities are scheduled through March and April and new poster artwork has been created by artist Stephen Romano for the occasion. VanBebber’s highly anticipated new short GATOR GREEN will accompany many of the screenings and will also be included in the extras-packed Special Edition Blu-Ray release.

The theatrical run launches at Landmark Theatres locations in Denver and San Francisco on March 22nd and will continue through April taking in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston and many more (see below for a partial list of engagements, with more to be announced in the coming weeks).

THE MANSON FAMILY delivers an uncompromising, brutal vision of the collapse of the “Love Generation.” On a ranch outside of LA the hippie dream is perverting into something evil. What was once an oasis of free love and acid trips has become ground zero for a madman’s paranoid visions. An average group of kids, the “Family”, become engulfed in a delusional world where torment and slaughter is considered the path to righteousness. The Manson Family is a dizzying, rapid-fire vision of the sex and violence that unifies the misguided group, and at the direction of their leader, ends in a brutal spree leaving seven people dead in 48 hours. Now re-mastered in stunning HD for the first time ever in America. Extras include an all-new Director’s commentary, the brand new short GATOR GREEN, the uncut version of the previously censored, feature length documentary THE VAN BEBBER FAMILY on the film’s near-mythic production, and much more.

And don’t forget to go see the film on the silver screen if it’s playing in your area. Hell, even if it isn’t, drive as far as you have to to check it out! Below you’ll find the newly updated (as of March 26th) list of theaters and dates where THE MANSON FAMILY will be playing…
