DIRECTOR FEDE ALVAREZ SAYS NO CGI IN EVIL DEAD REMAKE

Source: io9

Director of the EVIL DEAD REMAKE, Fede Alvarez, has stated that all the glorious gore galore onscreen was done as complete practical effects work, using no computer generated imagery what-so-ever. I’m assuming he means the gore effects only, and isn’t referring to, perhaps, some few tweaks, enhancements, wire removals and things of that nature. I don’t care if CGI is used in that manner, what MATTERS is that every horrifying, blood-soaked, gore-caked scene seen in the film was done in-camera and on the set. Yes, Yes, YES! THAT’S EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE! Any long time (or, hell, short time) reader of Backwoods Horror knows that I absolutely DESPISE CGI effects when they can, and should, be done practically. It’s the difference, to me, between watching a cartoon version of what’s supposed to be happening, to seeing the real deal. My mind picks up on the difference at ONCE and I’m taken COMPLETELY out of the film. So, Fede Alvarez, my horror hat is off to you, sir, for making the effort and truly going for it.

This is what he had to say:

We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.”

Starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.

FIRST OFFICIAL TRAILER FOR RESOLUTION

Though it’s been making the rounds, I see, through the festival circuit, I haven’t heard much about RESOLUTION until TRIBECA FILMS released a trailer for the film yesterday, and from what I can gather from the trailer, RESOLUTION is incredibly strange and original, two things the horror genre desperately needs these days.

RESOLUTION,  a feature film directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and starring Peter Cilella, Vinny Curran, Kurt David Anderson, Emily Montague, Skyler Meacham, Zahn McClarnon, and Bill Oberst, Jr., will be released On Demand by Tribeca Film on January 23rd (cable VOD, iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU, and more) and in select theaters beginning January 25th.

SYNOPSIS:

Michael (Peter Cilella) is committed to getting his best friend Chris (Vinny Curran) to sober up and get his life back on track. But what begins as an attempt to save his friend’s life quickly takes an unexpected turn as the two friends confront personal demons, the consequences of past actions, and forces beyond their control. Expertly balancing dark humor with genuine thrills and unexpected pathos, Resolution is an utterly unique cinematic experience that defies genre classification.

NEW TRAILER FOR GIRLS AGAINST BOYS!

Opening February 1st (in select cities), Anchor Bay has released a brand spankin’ new Trailer for GIRLS AGAINST BOYS (which you can check out, along with an 8 minute clip after the break). The last time I spoke on GIRLS AGAINST BOYS, or, rather, wrote on the subject, I compared it to rape-revenge flicks such as I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE or SAVAGE STREETS. Well, I’ve actually SEEN GIRLS AGAINST BOYS and I wouldn’t make such comparisons now. More of a whacked out THELMA & LOUISE than anything else with murder galore is probably closer to the mark. I’m keeping a lid on a review until after a Screening I’m going to next week, so for now I’m not sayin’ peep on what I think about the film. What I WILL say, however, is check out the new trailer after the break!

SYNOPSIS:

When Shae (Danielle Panabaker), a naïve college student, is tormented by several men in a matter of days, she reaches her breaking point, and is drawn into coworker Lu’s (Nicole LaLiberte) twisted plan for revenge. Together, the two embark on a gruesome killing spree, terrorizing and brutally murdering not just their attackers, but any man who gets in their way. However, after a wild weekend of retaliation, the friendship between the girls shifts into a dangerous obsession, and their perverse game becomes a desperate struggle for Shae to maintain control against Lu’s deadly and seductive influence.

Written and directed by acclaimed director Austin Chick (XX/XY, August) Girls Against Boys stars Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies), Nicole LaLiberte (HBO’s “How to Make It in America”), Andrew Howard (Limitless), Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield), and Liam Aiken (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events).

Be sure to keep checking the official GIRLS AGAINST BOYS facebook page, along with Anchor Bay Films’s Twitter Feed for more information. And, of course, always check back here  at BACKWOODS HORROR for more as it comes down the pipeline.

NEW OFFICIAL RED BAND TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE IS HERE!!!

NOW THE RED BAND TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE HAS FINALLY BEEN OFFICIALLY RELEASED TO THE WEB! And now you’ll be able to check it out below after the break! I’m actually incredibly excited about this. Why? BECAUSE I LOVE THE EVIL DEAD and even if the film does suck out loud, Raimi and company are still a part of it and I doubt they’d sign off on a piece of crap. From the teaser alone, I can’t wait to check this one out! I know, I know, I’m a philistine, but I can’t help it! The thing is, this trailer makes the film look gorier and JUST as insane as the original! In short, this looks like it’s actually going to be a damn good remake (not GREAT, mind you, but DAMNED GOOD).

Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.

SYNOPSIS:

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

THE TWILIGHT ZONE MAY BE MAKING A RETURN TO TELEVISION WITH BRYAN SINGER AT THE HELM

Source: Shock Till You Drop

Coming down the wire from the boils ‘n ghouls over at Shock Till You Drop:

“In addition to a new in-development feature film, now The Twilight Zone is being groomed for its return to television.

According to Deadline, Bryan Singer is spearheading the effort to revive the brand on the      small screen. He will develop, produce and (possibly) direct. Because it is so early in this project’s journey, it is too soon to tell where the series will land (Deadline speculates CBS) or who else will contribute.

The Twilight Zone was created by the great Rod Serling and it first aired in 1959. An anthology film in the ’80s brandished the brand and paved the way for the series’ small screen resurrection in ’85.

Currently, another TWILIGHT ZONE movie is kicked around Warner Bros. with writers and directors coming and going. Leonardo DiCaprio is on board to produce.”

CHECK OUT THE FIRST TRAILER FOR BRANDON FOWLER’S HYBRID VIGOR

Waaaaay back last July, we here at Backwoods Horror told you about an independent successfully Kickstarter financed film titled HYBRID VIGOR. It seemed like a weird sort of film, original, and new, so we’ve been following little rumblings here and there, though the crumbs have been few and far between. But now, finally, an official trailer has been released for the film. Check it out after the break below!

Voted IndieWire’s PROJECT OF THE WEEK and with a twitter following of over 250,000 followers (good GAWD!), HYBRID VIGOR surpassed its initial kickstarter goal of $50,000. This is all incredible news as it is so incredibly difficult to get an independent film made these days, funding always being such a problem to get things off the ground. Fowler even had to leave the US, going to a country few people other than Latvians ever even think about to get the film made. That’s f-ing dedication if I’ve ever heard it. So what is HYBRID VIGOR?

SYNOPSIS:

HYBRID VIGOR is a feature film about life, death, violence, morality, immortality, love, and loss in the USSR during Soviet times and in present day Latvia. It opens on frozen Lake Baikal in Siberia during Soviet times. Most of the film takes place in present day Latvia. More details about the plot will be revealed in the coming months.

For more information go to the OFFICIAL WEBSITE, The OFFICIAL KICKSTARTER PAGE, the TUMBLR Page, the FACEBOOK PageTWITTER, and there’s even a making-of series on YouTube.

MONDO TO RELEASE THE DEADLY SPAWN SOUNDTRACK ON VINYL

The brilliant minds behind MONDO are at it again, this time with a rare BLOOD RED Vinyl album of the soundtrack for THE DEADLY SPAWN.

From The Site:

Last year, we started a record label that focused on putting out great soundtracks on vinyl. Our first two offerings were MANIAC and THE BEYOND. We also announced that we would be putting DRIVE out with Tyler Stout artwork for the packaging. (Quick update on that… it’s done. Approved. And at the plant getting pressed.) We’ve been working very hard on getting choice titles and artists for packaging and we’re happy to announce that our first release for 2013 is being dropped this Friday, January 4th. This release just happens to be one of my favorite monster movies of all time and the packaging features amazing original art by Phantom City Creative. Here is THE DEADLY SPAWN….

Look upon its majesty and drool with me boils ‘n ghouls. I don’t know how many other readers of Backwoods Horror are Vinyl collectors like myself, but that is one beautiful, rare record, and it’s going to get snatched up quickly!
