GEORGE ROMERO WORKING ON SECRET ZOMBIE PROJECT FOR MARVEL COMICS!

Source: Bloody Disgusting

Zombie film legend, George A. Romero was interviewed at the Lund International Fantastic Film Festival in Sweden by Twitchfilm, where he mentioned a little tid-bit about writing a secret book for Marvel Comics. Apparently the book does not involve any of their superheroes, so “Marvel Zombies” is off the list, but he promises it will involve zombies. He refused to comment any more on the project, but you can bet we’ll be digging.

These are the only quotes he’d give on the project:

ROMERO – I am also writing a comic for Marvel. I’m writing it now, but it’s plot is a secret.

TWITCH – Awww c’mon George, just a little nibble? A tid bit?

ROMERO – Well I can tell you it won’t involve any of their on-going characters, there will be no superheroes. But it will involve zombies!

I’m not usually a comic reader, well…unless they’re horror comics, but this is definitely something I’ll have to check out. I can only imagine the freedom he’d have in the comic format as opposed to having to deal with producers telling him what he can and can’t do. Exciting!

COREY FELDMAN STARRING 6 DEGREES OF HELL COMING TO BLU-RAY

Breaking Glass Pictures (SCREAMING IN HIGH HEELSTHE FIELDS) has secured distribution rights for the independent horror film 6 DEGREES OF HELL. News has come down the line that Breaking Glass Pictures will unleash the film on to DVD on October 30th and Blu-Ray November 27th according to Blu-ray.com

Directed by Joe Raffa (local hit You’ll Know My Name), the film stars Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys,The Goonies), Jill Whelan (“The Love Boat”), Brian Anthony Wilson (Limitless), Faust Checho (The Fields), newcomers Nikki Bell, Kyle Patrick Brennan, Ashley Sumner, Nicole Cinaglia, David J. Bonner and Raffa himself.

In Northeast Pennsylvania, “Uncle Jack’s Hotel of Horror” is besieged by a dark presence after two friends of “Uncle” Jack, Chris and Kellen, unwittingly release a deadly evil by transporting local psychic Mary Wilkins’ collection of haunted objects as props for the popular tourist attraction. At the same time, a local TV ghost hunter, confronts an evil that has haunted him all his life-one he believes is responsible for his sister’s death years ago.

His search puts him in the path of a rogue police chief and June-a girl who seems to be the eye of this supernatural perfect storm. They all find themselves connected to the old hotel while the threads of their own personal horrors draw paranormal investigator Kyle Brenner (Feldman) to pull all the threads together…

Looking forward to another release with Breaking Glass, writer/producer Harrison Smith said, “We’re excited about 6 DEGREES OF HELL because it makes horror fun again. It’s a horror film with Easter eggs, there’s so much horror history in it. It’s intelligent, fun horror with solid characters and respect for the genre.

Wolff echoed his sentiments, saying “6 DEGREES is an excellent film, and the second in what will hopefully be many successful collaborations between Breaking Glass, Fabrication, and Harrison.  It is a perfect match.

SCREAM FACTORY’S THE VIDEO DEAD / TERROR VISION DOUBLE FEATURE BLU-RAY ART REVEALED!

A few weeks back, we here at Backwoods Horror reported that the über fantastic horror division of Shout Factory, SCREAM FACTORY, was going to be releasing the camp classic TERROR VISION and THE VIDEO DEAD to DVD. What we did NOT know, however, was that they’d be releasing TERROR VISION and THE VIDEO DEAD (a SUPREME classic in its own right and a thousand times better than TERROR VISION, in our personal opinion) as a double feature Blu-ray/DVD package! Exciting news, and we have the art for you below, check it out!

As with all SCREAM FACTORY releases, I MUST HAVE IT. THE VIDEO DEAD  alone hasn’t even seen a DVD release.  We know nothing, yet, about  special features. There may be none at all, and while that’d be a bummer, we here at Backwoods Horror are excited enough to just finally be getting both of these features on blu-ray (ESPECIALLY THE VIDEO DEAD)!

The Zombie Apocalypse seems to be on everybody’s lips these days. Should we categorize it as fiction, dismiss it as far-fetched paranoia, or speculate about it as a plausible scenario? Doc of the Dead is brought to the screen by the creators of the groundbreaking participatory and award-winning The People vs. George Lucas – Director Alexandre O. Philippe, Director of Photography/Producer Robert Muratore, and Producer Kerry Deignan Roy. It’s co-hosted by Geekscape’s own Jonathan London and Red Letter Media’s infamous Mr. Plinkett (The Phantom Menace review), who will be sitting in his basement, far away from all the chaos.

Doc of the Dead delves deep into the myriad crevasses of zombie culture to deliver the first ever in-depth look at a contemporary social pandemic of global proportions. Shot and edited in a cinematically edgy, high-octane style, it will host a rich and entertaining dialogue with zombie experts and celebrities, seek participation from YouTubers and indie filmmakers, and examine viral cultural trends to explore the possibility and ramifications of an actual zombie outbreak with sociologists, virologists, chemists, and members of the Zombie Research Society.

In short, this is the film that zombie fans across the globe have been secretly waiting for; and because reality is scarier than fiction, prepare to be utterly and positively FREAKED OUT! And remember – always aim for the head.

Doc of the Dead is written and directed by Alexandre O. Philippe and produced by DoP Robert Muratore and Kerry Deignan Roy.

TREVOR JUENGER & BILL OBERST’S COYOTE GETS A TRAILER AND POSTER

Directed by Trevor Juenger and starring Oberst, Jr.,(whom you may remember as the creepy psycho from the TAKE THIS LOLLIPOP interactive short film) along with Bill Finkbiner, Victoria Mullen and Tasha Zebrowski, COYOTE is an art-house horror film that looks very intriguing. For some insight into the film, check out the Coyote Production Blog website.

From the Press Release:

The first trailer for Coyote from director Trevor Juenger has been released. In the film Bill Oberst, Jr., plays an insomniac writer whose sleep-deprived hallucinations distort reality until his paranoia leads him to extreme violence.

St. Louis-based director Trevor Juenger wrote the script for the micro-budget feature with Oberst in mind and flew the actor to the Midwest for a month of filming during the worst heat wave in decades. Oberst says “That script was brutal, raw, explicit and offensive. The shoot was even more so. This film won’t be for everyone. But Juenger reminds me so much of a young Lynch with a dash of Cronenberg that I had to work him. I couldn’t resist. We did this with no money, only passion for the experiment.”

Of his lead actor Juenger says, “I was listening to an interview with Bill Oberst, Jr., today where he said his best asset is keeping quiet. Well, I have to disagree. I like a belligerent, aggressive, maniacal Bill Oberst, Jr., screaming and threatening people. That’s the strength. I don’t think real mental illness is a quiet one. Bill embodies the abusive dad, boyfriend, or whatever misogynistic ugliness you experienced growing up. You can’t stand up to him when he’s on the screen. Instead, he leaves you like a battered housewife, exhausted and helpless, yet attracted to the abuse.”

Coyote is an attempt to blend the art-house genre, in which Juenger has primarily worked, with horror. The director admits it is a risky experiment: “If this is a horror movie (everyone assures me it is), it’s unlike any horror film I’ve seen. I think we used the horror fundamentals that fit, and then threw away the book. Good, bad, revolting, or brilliant, I can’t quite say. I can say it’s something fresh though. Someone called it David Lynch directs Falling Down. As much as I hate the Lynch comparisons, I thought that was fitting. It’s what I wanted to see. I hope you feel the same.”

OFFICIAL RED BAND TEASER TRAILER FOR THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE!

The official red band teaser trailer for THE EVIL DEAD remake has finally premiered and, amazingly, it actually looks pretty damn good. Weird, right? But that’s the thing with trailers, they’re often so better than the movies themselves these days. Ok, ok, I know I should judge the film before seeing it, and I WILL see it because I’m such an EVIL DEAD mark, but given the track records of remakes recently, I’m not overly hopeful.

HOWEVER, people have been flipping out about it. NOW THE VERY TRAILER EVERYONE’S BEEN TALKING ABOUT HAS FINALLY BEEN OFFICIALLY LEAKED TO THE WEB! And now you’ll be able to check it out below after the break! I’m actually incredibly excited about this. Why? BECAUSE I LOVE THE EVIL DEAD and even if the film does suck out loud, Raimi and company are still a part of it and I doubt they’d sign off on a piece of crap. From the teaser alone, I can’t wait to check this one out! I know, I know, I’m a philistine, but I can’t help it!

Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, and Bruce Campbell, FilmDistrict’s reboot is aiming for release on April 12th, 2013. Also, be sure to check out the official website and facebook page.

SYNOPSIS:

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
