Quick Post: GINGER SNAPS

Posted on 26th August 2008 by aaron in Video - Tags: , , , ,

Mmmmkay, I have to rush out of here in a second, but I wanted to just put in a quick post about one of my all time favourite movies in the Horror genre (not THE favourite, but in the top 10).  If you haven’t seen it yet, go out and rent or buy GINGER SNAPS.  This flick is fucking sweet.  Here’s a sample:

Wish I could find the introductory theme on mp3 somewhere.  Anyway, I’ll probably post a review on it sometime in the near future.  Medical issues still have your favourite horror host down and out for the most part, but, with any luck, I’ll be bounding back soon.  Enjoy!

FRIDAY THE 13th DOCUMENTARY & Other Tales Of The Strange

Updates, Updates, Updates.

First up, we have news on a Friday The 13th Documentary from Dread Central and Fangoria HIS NAME WAS JASON: The Legacy Of Friday The 13th.  Kickass title.  This from Fangoria:

“Dread Central reports that a new documentary on the FRIDAY THE 13TH films called HIS NAME WAS JASON is currently being put together by Starz and Anchor Bay Entertainment. Daniel Farrands, who worked on the FRIDAY coffee-table-book retrospective CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES and created two AMITYVILLE HORROR docus for the History Channel that also wound up on the DVD of the 1979 film, is directing, and the team behind HALLOWEEN: 25 YEARS OF TERROR is producing. Interviewees from both within and outside the FRIDAY productions are currently being rounded up to share their thoughts (we hear Adrienne King is about to take part, as well as Fango chief Tony Timpone), and Starz will air the show next February (to tie in with the release of the big-screen FRIDAY remake, natch). Presumably, Anchor Bay will have it out on DVD around the time the new FRIDAY flick hits disc. —Michael Gingold”

Next up we have the poster for the new After Dark Horrorfest.  Gotta say, this one’s the best so far.  Check it out!

And now for the news of the strange.  The ‘ol french boys behind INSIDE have taken on duties to direct a, get this now, a FUCKING SEQUEL to Rob Zombie’s Shitstorm HALLOWEEN.  You have to be shitting me.  The folk over at Rue Morgue got the following scoop…you know, if you want to call it that:

“It’s a proposition we couldn’t refuse.” Maury explains they’re reverent of Zombie’s re-imagining of Michael Myers and they’re out to put their stamp on the character not copy what came before them. “Therefore, our vision will be done with upmost respect, with a continuity of [Zombie’s] work but also a real evolution of the world he set in place.”

Great.  More shit.

Alrighty, well, till next time boils and ghouls, I’m off.  Medical problems are keeping me from updating as much as I’d like to.  Sorry kiddos!

The TRICK ‘R TREAT Saga Continues

Posted on 24th August 2008 by aaron in Uncategorized - Tags: , ,

Well now, according to they boys over at Shock Till You Drop, TRICK ‘R TREAT IS still with Warner Brothers, though now it’d seem that they’re going to release it directly to DVD.  FUCK A DUCK, MAN, DVD?  If any flick the dumbass mofos over at WB had their grubby little mitts on DESERVED theatrical release it’d be Trick ‘R Treat.  Jeez.  Click a link or two above for more info. on the movie.  I’m just tired of this back and forth bullshit.  Anyway, I suppose I’d should be happy that I’d be getting anything at all.  No realease date on the dvd yet, but stay tuned: same bat time, same bat channel, and I’m sure I’ll be passing along that information.

More to come including a retrospective on Joe Bob Briggs, one of the most awesome southern horror personalities around and always a friend to The Backwoods Horror crew.

Catching Up…

Ok everyone, sorry I haven’t updated in a few days.  Might have something to do with the fact that I was HOSPITALIZED after having a seizure.  Seems your friendly neighbourhood horrormaniac has some health problems, but I’m back (sort of) and I plan on getting back on my regular updating schedule again soon.  In the meantime, here’s a few snippets:

Turns out the bigfoot hoopla I’ve been following down in Georgia was, as I thought it might be, a bunch of bullshit.  A rubber suit in a freezer.  Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait till the next big bigfoot craze comes around to get excited again.  Until then, pop in a copy of The Legend Of Boggy Creek and drift off to sleep.

In some news that’s FREAKING AWESOME, DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW, only one of the greatest TV Horror flicks of all time, is finally getting the DVD treatment it deserves.  So go ahead and sell your prized, expensive as fuck, VHS copy now, as it won’t be worth diddly shit when the DVD comes out.

And that’s really the only interesting news to hit me so far.  Expect a review or two up in the near future, along with all the horror news that anyone would really give a shit about.  ALSO: Keep checking out the site as I have a plan to try my fiendish hand at audio (and perhaps video) podcasting very soon.

KEEP IT CREEPY!

UPDATE: Georgia Bigfoot

Posted on 15th August 2008 by aaron in News - Tags: , , ,

Ok, the other day I mentioned a news article or two about how these hunters found a bigfoot body.  Well, they’ve released a picture and they’re supposedly going to have a press conference today at 12 noon Pacific Standard Time. Ok, this is a short post, so here’s the Pic:

I’m calling bullshit.  That thing looks fake as hell.  But hey, I’d love to be proven wrong.  Publicity stunt?  Maybe.  We’ll see.  Stay tuned right here boils and ghouls for more information.

These are the guys who found the body.  Can they be trusted?  We’ll see.

TRAILER PARK OF TERROR Coming to DVD

Wow, what a title. Let me tell you, horror and trailer parks fit in pretty good here at Backwoods Horror, so when I first read about TRAILER PARK OF TERROR, I nearly dropped a load. Here’s the synopsis from our favourite boils and ghouls over at Shock Till You Drop:

Six troubled high school students and their chaperon, an optimistic youth ministries Pastor, return from an outdoor character building retreat in the mountains. During a raging storm, their bus crashes, hopelessly stranding them in the middle of the Trucker’s Triangle, a forgotten locus of consummate evil in the middle of nowhere. The hapless group seeks shelter for the night in a seemingly abandoned trailer park they find down the road. However, when the sun sets, it’s not refuge they find. Instead, terror finds them in the form of Norma, a damned redneck reaper with a killer body who dispenses vengeance and death aided by her cursed companions, a bloodthirsty brood of Undead trailer trash.

Sounds like one hell of a good time. The DVD art has just been released (see below) and you can expect to see the DVD on October 21, 2008. So get your netflix queues greased up so you can slide this flick on in when it comes out. I’ve got a shit-ton of pics for you and a trailer to boot. Check it out:

Here’s the DVD Cover art. You’ll find more pics after the break.

HOME SICK Finally Coming To DVD

Posted on 14th August 2008 by aaron in Indie Horror News,News - Tags: , , ,

I saw a trailer for the film Home Sick YEARS ago.  I remember a creepy guy with a suitcase full of razorblades and all kinds of chaos and gore.  It always sort of stuck with me.  “What happened to that Bill Moseley flick where he plays that creepy guy?”  Well, thanks to the boys over at Dread Central and Synapse Films, I know.  It’s been traveling the convention circuit and otherwise stewing in its own juicy horror goodness for SIX YEARS.  But now, It’s finally coming to DVD.  The Director, Adam Wingard, and the Writer/Producer E.L. Katz must be relieved that the long, hard road has come to a point of completion.  Over at Dread Central, E.L. Katz dropped a line to let us all know what we can expect from the upcoming DVD release and I got the following synopsis and specs from Synapse:

Available Aug 26th!

Bill Moseley (Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN, THE DEVIL’S REJECTS) stars as a smiling maniac named “Mr. Suitcase”. With a briefcase full of razorblades, he crashes a homecoming get-together for Claire (Lindley Evans) and forces the partygoers to identify people they hate. Soon, a black-hooded supernatural killer is loose killing each person identified by the teens and the terrified friends realize they may also be viciously murdered because Tim (Matt Lero) awkwardly joked that he hated everyone at the party, too! As the corpses pile up and the body parts fly, the kids enlist the help of a crazed chili loving militia man who can give them the weapons they need to stay alive! Also co-stars Cult mega-babe Tiffany Shepis.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

– Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1)
– Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Surround
– Audio Commentary by Director Adam WIngard & Writer E.L. Katz
– Deleted Opening Sequence
– Making Of Featurette Starring Director Adam Wingard
– Original Short Films from E.L. Katz & Adam Wingard
– Bill Moseley Interview

Looks to me like a pretty sweet flick.  Your creepyness will definitely be checking it out when it hits shelves, so keep your eyeballs peeled for an upcoming review.

Billy Bob Thornton, Megan Fox, Bigfoot, & Other Horror News

I don’t really have a lot of time to make a post right now, so I’m going to post a little Horror News Roundup…yeehaw.

Ok, although it’s been in the horror news for a few days now, Fangoria just picked up the news that Billy Bob Thornton is rumoured to be the next Freddy Krueger.  Seems the rumour was started by the man himself, Robert Englund.  Englund was quoted as saying that Thornton would be “an excellent choice.”  You might remember Thornton in such fright flicks as Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town and he was a voiceless, redneck in a crowd of rednecks that later fell out of a truck in Hunter’s Blood (at least I THINK that was him).

In other news, Horror Movies.ca reports that the Megan Fox topless/nude scene we’ve all been watering at the mouth about has been cut from the upcoming Jennifer’s Body.  I would say that this pretty much takes the movie out of the running of flicks to watch, but the lesbian makeout scene she’s in is still in the movie, so now it’s a “maybe I’ll watch it, but maybe I’ll just wait for the UNRATED DVD to come out that has everything” movie.

Fox News, CNN, and others have been reporting that two ‘ol boys in Georgia have a Bigfoot body!  Normally I’d call bullshit on something like this, because even though I believe in the big, hairy guy, there are way too many hoaxes and whenever someone in the past has said they have a body, it’s been, well, bullshit.  However, they say they’ve sent DNA off to be tested and are going to hold a press conference for the world to see on Friday, August 15th.  They also said that they plan to hand the body over to science for further study.  This could be interesting, and if it proves out, HA! to all you assholes that said I was just a crazy fucker.

Looks like my favourite movie monster, the werewolf, may be coming back into vogue.  With the Wolfman Remake, another Underworld piece of shit, and the upcoming LOBO: “Lobo follows a man who receives a letter and some photos from his mother’s will, and decides to travel to the Amazon to find out his true roots. What he discovers is a clan of lycanthropes whom he eventually helps in their battle for survival.” (Dread Central) I’m worried that it’ll suck though.  Unfortunately, most horror movies, well, no, all werewolf movies made today suck total donkey dong.

Finally, a little eye candy.  Shock Till You Drop released the cover art for the release of Friday The 13th: The Series, which some of you may be interested in, even though the show was a complete piece of shit and didn’t have Jason in it.  Freddy’s Nightmares was much better.  Here ya go:

The Return Of Nazisploitation? Or Just A Pile Of Scheisse.

The boys over at Dread Central got their grimy mitts on some very, how should I put it, not safe for work footage from the new indy flick BLITZKRIEG: ESCAPE FROM STALAG 69.

Here’s the synopsis from IMDB: “Enter Stalag 69, where torture is just the Beginning for this bloody band of Nazi Butchers! Germany, 1945. Stalag 69, a POW camp ruled by the sadistic SS commandant Helmet Schultz, is nothing but a blood-soaked playground for this perverse Nazi monster who uses his American, Russian, and British prisoners in cruel and ghastly biochemical weapons experiments. When a group of young, wanton USO girls are captured and fall into the hands of Schultz and his battalion of butchers, the shocking brutality is turned up and the unsuspecting girls are gored, gouged and ground up – all for the pleasure of Schultz and his SS brothers and sisters. Now it’s up to the rag-tag survivors of the camp to strike back against their captors and Escape from Stalag 69, alive or on a slab! Cult exploitation director Keith (The Bloody Ape) Crocker delivers a sprawling, ambitious and foul smelling orgy of Nazi sickness and World War II action in the tradition of the exploitation classics Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS, Gestapo’s Last Orgy and SS Hell Camp.”

Sounds like fun.  Guess we’ll just have to wait ‘n see.  Check below for the trailer, a flyer, and, after the break, you can find that Uber Not Safe For Work clip:

Trick ‘r Treat: Still With WB, New Poster

Posted on 11th August 2008 by aaron in News - Tags: , ,

UPDATE: So it would seem that Shock Till You Drop’s Rep at WB has told them that there was some sort of internal mistake and that Trick ‘r Treat shouldn’t have been on the publicity list sent out to everyone (except Backwoods Horror, we’re not cool enough I guess, fuckers).  So…FUCK-A-DUCK.  Depressing.

The cool ghouls over at Shock Till You Drop keep giving me good news in regard to Trick ‘r Treat.  Last Friday it was reported that the film was still with Warner Brothers, and as of today, the flick has a web domain (even if it does lead to Warner Brothers’ main page and you have to do some searching, still better than nothing), and a brand, spankin’ new poster.  Feast your eyes and clicky on the poster to head on over to the WB site.
